Hi Eric and welcome to our little group of NAMers (or NAMily). Can I assume from your screen name that you grow coca for eventual distribution as cocaine?
You missed our meeting last night but we'll have another next month so watch here on NAM for where and when (always the second Tuesday of the month).
We do have a ride coming up on October 26 called Yalla Yalla. You can read and get more confusion about the event here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=154431
and you can always check out our club calendar here:

Hi.. Im not really new...but i never got into forums but i love my mini..its been a while so i figured i would give it another shot

I got my current MCS 10/04/2005 from ralph schomp. Its BRG with a black top and black over white bonnet stripes. I have almost 66k today but i am mostly seen in the c-470 area. I used to race open track days at 2nd Creek raceway when it was open, but i enjoy just motoring around town. Anyhow, I really just wanted to check out the local and national NAM online community

Happy Motoring

Hello, I am a New Mexican getting ready to take a trip in my new S up to Telluride. Some suggested that I post this question on this thread:

I plan on taking the family up to Telluride over Thanksgiving break. Snow is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday. If you have experience with the two roads that get you into Telluride, please let me know how they fair in the snow. I really want to take the MINI, but will take the Xterra if I have to.

Last year at this time

a group from NMM and MINI5280 had made it's way out to 4 Corners and Cortez. There was a threat of snow that day so the Denver contingent left early to head home. And there were a few flakes out there too.

Amazingly, the plows were out. That area has so few roads that they have to keep them open, or be working at it. Telluride is no different with such limited access. They are good - really good.

If it was me I would go, with the basic understanding that a) if it snows it will be slow and b) if it snows a lot they will clear it and then let you thru.
There is no chance they will shut down that town. Too much money at stake. Just dress warm.

Thanks for the input. It took us about 7-8 hours from the Albuquerque area. We ended up taking the Cortez/Stoner route and it was wet the entire ride. At times I could drive 70 and other parts of the trip I was driving 20 mph. I definitely pushed my new S to its limits. I am happy to say that my wife, four year old daughter and ski gear/luggage all fit in the MINI for a four day trip.

Thought I'd post in here even though I've been kicking around for a while. Many of the requested details are in my signature. Not sure about mods at this point--I'm pretty happy with the car thus far. But I've only got ~800 miles on it, so we'll see how long that opinion hangs around!

I'm not super excited about this winter. Despite LSD, DSC, and all-season tires, I slipped around more than I really liked this morning in the snow and slush and 17 degree temperatures. It's times like these when I really miss my Wrangler, but I'll survive. Glad to be here and hope to meet some of you some time!! If you see a car matching my description somewhere around Boulder, give a wave!

Hope your windshield tint (if any) meets Boulders strict adherance to winshield tint that I read about in todays Roky Mountain News.

No windshield tint, so I'm okay there. The article actually says "It’s illegal to tint the front windshield." I doubt I would even consider doing that anyway. My motorcycle helmet only has a light tint on the face shield, and that makes night riding difficult if I'm not in town and around sources of light other than my headlight.

Hey! Yep, doctoral student, but I also have a full time job, to which I'll soon be adding teaching, too. Finances are very tight, but I'll survive. Spring is gonna kill me...

Maybe when the semester gets over we can meet up.

Ashley's MINI

Second Try

WHEN did you get your MINI (or Mini)?
We got our MINI in Dec 07
WHAT is your MINI or Mini's name?
Our MINI does not have a name
WHAT color or colors is your MINI?
Liquid Yellow with black stripes
What options did you get on your MINI?
Came with cold weather package
WILL you be doing modifications to your MINI or Mini?
We have started several cosmetic mods:
Boot and bonnet stripes
Blacked out beltline, door handles, headlight bezels, grills, rear latch
handle
Alteza tail lights (Thanks, Miniconcarne)
WHERE did you get your MINI or Mini? New? Used?
We got our 02 Justa at Ralph Shomp
WHY did you get a MINI or Mini?
Ah, the good part of the story. When I was 12 my Mom bought a turbo charged Mustang. She told me it was mine when I turned 16 as long as my studies and attitude proved worthy. My Ram truck was setting me back about $70 a week in fuel and my daughter was turning 12. The MINI is the same story for her. It belongs to her and she lets her dad drive (and pay) for it until she turns 16 and has earned it. Her only condition is that it gets repainted white with pink stripes. We will have to talk about that when the time comes.
WHAT part of town will you be seen in?
East side. E470 and Smokyhill area.

WHAT types of events would you likely be involved in? (choices are things like weeknight events, food rides, mountain rides, autocross, track days, weekend events, food only, tech talks, etc. Feel free to make up your own.)
We are looking forward to all types of events. Meeting other MINI owners. All of these events provide daddy-daughter-MINI time.

WHAT can MINI5280 do for you?
and more.

What a Christmas present!

Merry Christmas!!

Boy is this fun!

WHEN did you get your MINI (or Mini)?
I picked it up Monday afternoon 12/22

WHAT is your MINI or Mini's name?
I have never named my cars. But I might name this one Harvey. Those that know movie classics will know that Harvey is a Pooka, which I think might be very appropriate.

WHAT color or colors is your MINI?
LiB with a black top. No stripes. I am surprised at how much I like the color! It looks much better in person than it does on the configurator.

What options did you get on your MINI?
Black leather w/Piano Black, Convenience, Premium, Cold Weather, Web spokes, LSD, Chrome lines, Fog lamps, Xenons, Hi Fi, JCW tuning kit

WILL you be doing modifications to your MINI or Mini?
Clear Bra today (Ace Automotive. Thanks MayBee!), tinted windows on Friday. Deciding either a JCW or an Alta 19mm sway bar, then I'll enjoy it while deciding what's next.

WHERE did you get your MINI or Mini? New? Used?
New from Schomp. We had some ups and downs, but overall, I am pleased with them. It was a learning experience for my MA and me, both.

WHY did you get a MINI or Mini?
I drove one!

WHAT part of town will you be seen in?
South metro. Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Centennial

WHAT types of events would you likely be involved in? (choices are things like weeknight events, food rides, mountain rides, autocross, track days, weekend events, food only, tech talks, etc. Feel free to make up your own.)
I watched your Children's Hosp drive earlier this month, and thought that was really cool! I would like to participate in similar activities, as well as weekend drives. Who knows, I might even see what I can learn on a track.

WHAT can MINI5280 do for you?
I am interested in drawing on the experience of all the members, and maybe I can help others once I learn some of the secrets of MINI ownership.

Welcome. You will enjoy the Mini and MINI5280 experience! O.k. what is LiB??
Don't make me go to the "configurator" bad things could happen.

Lightning Blue would be my guess - where's that damn cheat sheet when you need it?
Glad to have you Elwood. Be sure to check the club calendar for upcoming events such as this weekend there is a track day at the CSP track in Golden and 1/13 is our next meeting and 1/18 is our ATHP. We are such fun people you'll be sure to have a blast. Oh and we're friendly too and clean (well most of us) and very very polite.

From what I have read on the threads recently, snow tires make a huge difference!

You bet they do. I drive my MINI year round and from October through March the Blizzaks go on. Not as fun as my summer tires but they let me get around when I otherwise couldn't.

Yeah, I've been gathering that info, too. But I really don't have that kind of money to throw around right now. So, I'll be cautious this winter and perhaps shoot for that goal next winter.
