Almost out of warranty! *GASP!*

It's true. I'm sitting at 49930 right now. I have a coupla questions. My driver side seat has a crack in it, might that be covered? I also have an under the car rattle (probably that silver thing around where the exhaust pipe is, had the same noise in my other MINI)? Should I have that checked out? And last but not least, my heat sucks in the winter time. If I set it on auto at 74 its cold in the car. Any ideas on what that might be? I should have called about it this past winter, but you know how that goes. I'll get to it... I'll get to it...
And anything else I should check before my warranty is up?
Thanks and hope to motor with y'all soon!

Call and make an appointment, tell them everything you know that needs to be addressed -- broken seat, rattle under the car, defective heating -- and tell them you want them fixed before the warranty expires in a few miles. Basically, get it into their system *now* before you roll past 50k!

I agree with the above. Only problem is by the time she gets her MINI up to Denver from the Springs she will be over 50K.

I guess she could have it brought up on a roll-back.

Good luck getting those little things fixed. Have you thought about an extended warranty?

Abbe,

Do you want to trailer it up to Schomp? I own a tandem axle car hauler trailer that someone w/ a 1/2 ton or bigger truck could pull.

I'm not too sure, but if you are over the mileage a tad you should be ok.
They (MINI) would not help me with my power steering because I was 18
months past the expiration date. If you are still under the time frame (not sure if it's 3 or 4 yrs?)
get it to Schomp. Good luck.

I was thinking it was 4 years and 48,000 miles. Am I wrong? I'm sitting at 43,000 miles (3 years) and I've got a 2,000 mile trip coming up. I'm think I'm going to buy the extended warranty (got the CVT) - already bought the extended maintenance.
Abbe - I'm sure if you call Schomp and get it in the system as suggested everything will be fine. Talk to Devin or Randy.

I thought it was a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty. That's what mine was when I bought mine.

I just passed my 3 year free maintenance warranty coverage. What is the 'extended warranty' that I can purchase....and who do I purchase it from? I'm sure someone out there has recently done the research.???? I believe the extended warranty is worth it, but is the maintenance?
Is it worth the long and inconvenient drive to Schomp from Broomfield to have maintenance done?....or are the local shops who can do it also?

I bought the extended warranty and maintenance back in October for my '07 MCS. I bought them just a few hundred miles before 36k. I don't know if they are still available for purchase after the vehicle is over 36k, though. Overall, I am very glad I bought both. The total cost was right around $5,000 for both, if I recall correctly. I think the maintenance was closer to $2,000, and the warranty was around $3,000.

My '07 MCS is now at 56k miles and about ready to go in for another service (2,000 miles to go....A.K.A. 3 weeks). Just like before the included maintenance plan expired, I haven't paid for any of the maintenance I've had done. At the last service, I was told that there was about 3,000 miles left on the rear brakes. "Replace them now?", I was asked. Hell yeah!

I remember quickly totaling up the costs for recommended services between 36k and 100k miles. It was something over $4,000 for everything.....or around $2,000 to buy the maintenance plan.

And with the warranty, if you don't make a claim before your vehicle hits 100k miles, you get the $$$ back! W00T!

Oh, and the maintenance and warranty are purchased through Schomp.

^^ I can confirm what wpskier said.
The big thing with maintenance is the brakes and transmission fluids.
The big thing with warranty (for me) is the CVT coverage.

sooooo....if you buy the warranties through Schomp and then you move...are the warranties covered at any Mini Service?....or just Schomp?
Did you pay the $5000 in a lump up front?....or in payments?

I don't know if other dealerships will honor the extended maintenance, so you'll have to check on that one.

I paid all of the money in one lump sum.

Thanks for the advice. I called the dealership and made my appointment. They didn't have anything available until next week. I explained I would definitely be over 50k by then! He said, no problem, and put a note in the file. I haven't given much thought to an extended warranty, I'm sure someone will hit me up for it while I'm up there.
Mike - thank you for the offer of the trailer! I think I'm good to go since I called before I hit the magic number.

The extended maintenance & warranty programs are national so they are transferable & good anywhere.
That's the kind of response I had expected you to get Abbe. Now its time to motor so come out and play with us.

Well, as luck would have it, I've had to rely on the extended warranty that I purchased.... And very much so....

Short version:

Last Sunday, my '07 MCS (58,000 miles) died on I-76, 20 miles past Brush. Towed back to Schomp, where they inspected it. A seized vacuum pump caused the cam shaft to stop turning, which sheared off a timing gear and did some other damage.

Solution? New engine
Total Cost? $8,100
My Cost? $200 deductible

GE Financial . I think the warranty cost me about $2,800 or so. Well worth the investment.

Pretty much ruined MITM though.... Turned in to 4WDITM instead.

Here's the long version:

Just something to keep in mind for anybody debating the warranty.

Well poop. Glad it turned out OK but I'm sorry it ruined MITM for you.
Rest assured however, next year will bring another MITM.
