Another Dyno day and tune options! Denver

EDIT: Go to the last page of the thread for the current status. -- Don

As some of you NAMers may know, Jan of Revolution MINI Works has been offering performance tunes for the R53 for a long time.

Well he is now breaking the ice on the R56/R55/R57, so I asked about him coming to Denver.

We have an option to join up with a Utah group in September or set our own, if we can get enough cars and interest between the R56s and R53s.

See this thread for some interesting comments and charts, see page 2 for the R56 stock unit that was tuned.

Any interest? R53 or R56...? It was noted that the R56 tune is $800 at RMW which includes dyno time.

One of the UTAH guys who is setting up a tune in UTAH wants us to join the UTAH activity.

Thoughts? Nothing is concrete, nothing is set, getting feedback.

Don

count me in!

I almost phoned Schomp yesterday to order the JCW stage 1 kit....
sometimes it's good to wait...
but do count me in...

It would be nicer if we can get it done before the yellowstone trip.... or at least before the MITM this year.... I know... it's time to show off.....

I doubt anything will happen with a JAN tune session in Denver until September or later.

If you need it sooner, you might drive out to California for an appointment.

The R56 tunes are just starting and a little experimental (Dimsport Genius). See Jan's thread he started.

The only way this will be viable is is we get at least 5 R56/R55/R57 cars and as many R53 folks who want a new tune.

I will contact Jan directly and see if this can be real for Denver. He is getting very booked up since he travels a lot during summer prime time.

More next week, I hope.

So with a possible 3 intended on this thread and at least 1 09 JCW (not on NAM), maybe 2 JCWs, we have 5 R56s.

I wonder if Dennis is a possible, he was doing a bunch of lamanova changes on this JCW on the 24th. I guess I we will have to see.

I will let you all know what I find out sometime next week after Wed. I think.

Today's update

I talked with Jan for few minutes this morning, he is heading east to tune and work with RSR out of Phoenix.

We need 10 MINIs to make this happen. He is willing to come to Denver.

I suspect we will use the Parker facility, since a lot of us have baselines on that dyno from our February 5280 dyno day.

Rick and I have everyone's DynoJet files if you did not save them or get them from that day.

So, let's start a count, costs are not absolutely set for the R56 crowd.

R53 costs are $350 plus dyno time (1 to 1.5 per MINI), which is at the tuner rate at MAC, check online if you want to see the current tuner rate.

RMW has been posting $800 for a R56 tune which included the shop dyno time, so I suspect we would be in this range for the R56 tune, but it is not set.

R56 Interest.

1. Don Suiter (old81) - 07 R56 (scooter - automatic)
2. U Toscano - (no-nam) 09 JCW
3. Michael Suoo (michaelsuoo)- 07 R56 MCSa
4. Ryan Dantino (MiniEnvy)-08 R56 MCSa
5. Seth - (MiniManiac74) - 08 R56 MCS -- maybe, if travel allows.
6.
7.

R53 Interest.

1. Tommy Zito - possible if car together
2.
3.
4.
5.

Quote this and add your name. (real and NAM handle, thank you)

I will update his entry as the master from your additions. -- Don

Put me on the list for an R53. Having an event here in Denver beats driving to UT.

Cheers,

Moving the Master list

I am moving the master list to this post versus leaving it up in post #8.

No real date is set, I was suggesting late September or October, if could be later or earlier if Jan is available.

Group of interested folks, what date/month would you like to see, if we get the full 10 or more? What days of the week are best?

It may all depend on when RMW/Jan is available! If we do not get 10 or 12, it will not happen.

When we schedule, you should not back out, this is an expensive scheduling and timing issue. Tunes and dyno time tends to be expensive.

I'm will to do the leg work and schedule for the dyno time(probably at MAC), but we will have to be set at least a month before the actual days.

Jan does like to dyno and tune over two days so nothing is rushed.

I know one of the R56 folks is probably going to be on deployments, so his wife may bring the MINI up for the tune.

Well i know i don't speak for every one but id like to see when he is going to be available before i make my decision. we should see if the Dyno shop will cut us a deal being the possible volume of cars that will attend. i mean 10 cars at 1 to 1.5 hours time is like a guaranteed 10-15 hours if not more. and im sure RMW/Jan will want deposits for this.

Yes, Tommy it will need to be planned. I'm trying to gauge interest before I get Jan committed to a flight, hotel and 2 or 3 days in Denver.

I have talked with Jan on the phone and via email/pm. If we get 10 real we should be golden and we can set dates and spend time getting good deals.

I'm sure MAC will work with us, if not we will find another shop.

Let me know if your in and what works for you. Btw, do you own a dyno and want the business?

Meet you in Parker, you have tools in your carry-on? The dyno shop is in Parker.

Going east or west (home)?

As you can see we have an ongoing gathering of desire, here in Denver.

I'm still hanging in there for a date . My wife has instructions to bring it up to Denver whenever the tune will take place.

Hopefully, RMW will have some dynos posted of his most recent tunes.
