I have a set of original orciari scoops with original box and packaging but since they are no longer available I would not consider parting with them for anything less than $200 and that might not even do it for me.

Yea good luck finding those. 200 isn't bad considering they are rare.

Why would anyone put these things on their car and defeat the purpose of the OEM design???

They add to the OEM design. Anyway to force more air into the engine is a better design....

Looks, youification, I like the looks of mine even though they really don't do anything. They are in a dead zone as far as air flow goes. I even had a veteran MINI mechanic tell me that you should only use one side so that if there was any forced air in it could flow easier out the other stock side causing it to be more effective. It actually sounds like a good idea. To each his own, that's why we drive MINIs. Modify yours the way you want and be happy that all of our MINIs don't look exactly alike.

Can these be mounted backwards to take advantage of the high pressure area at the base of the windshield? Like a true cowl induction?

I do not believe so. They have a small curve in them and don't match up when you flip them around backwards and left to right. I had the same idea but it did not work.
