I stuck one of my spare heads in the dishwasher to clean off really good. It's got really hot water and all. Thought I could get it do e before she came home. I ended up having to scrub the darn thing with simple green then run it with nothing in it. It turns the plastic inside a light dark color. Don't do that. Not good

I have to tell this story though cause I think you guys can appreciate it. When we first got married I told her I wanted to buy a Harley and she said "No way!" cause where we live people drive like absolute maniacs. So I said I want to but a boat cause I love the ocean. She however doesn't like the water so it was "Please no. You can spend whatever you want on the car." To which my response was "Ok, that's going on the calendar.", and it did. And that my friends is how through compromise, enduring marriages are built ;-)

We have a lot of really great vendors here at NAM but I have to give a shout out to Way Motor Works. I order a complete set of Forge silicone hoses for Tigger to include coolant, boost tube and post intercooler hoses. Had one hose I couldn't install though. The one that connects the plastic boost tube on the left side of the engine to the intake hose was missing the metal adapter that allows it to be connected to the manifold intake hose. Sent WMW an e-mail and Waylen pulled one from another kit and sent it. No muss, no fuss just great, fast service even after the sale. Thanks Waylen.

We need a thumbs up and down button for great responses about businesses that do good deeds like this. Or something that puts them to the top of a search from positive feed back such as this. And track by IP addresses so it can't be manipulated.

It's been two and a half weeks since we ordered the new cam and I was beginning to have visions of a little old man somewhere in Germany, wearing lederhosen while working on a piece of bar stock with a file. Slowly crafting a camshaft by hand. My fears proved ungrounded however and the new intake cam arrived today. The builder and I will be swapping them tomorrow. Anthony will be doing all of the prep work and close up. I'm just helping a little with the swap itself.

Well we swapped out the cams today. Figured I'd upload a picture of the difference between the two ends that mate with the HPFP. The cam on the left is the older style cam that mates to the Continental pump whereas the one on the right is for the Bosch pump used in engines built after March 2012.

Install went without a hitch. Getting kinda a good at this crap by now lol. I was a bit concerned BMW may have changed the side plate on the side of the head where the HPFP bolts on when they switched pumps but everything lined up great.

But there's more....wait for it...wait for it... What I should have been concerned about was what else they may have changed. Take a look at the difference in the fuel lines that go from the HPFP to the fuel rail. Yes that's right they used different diameter lines.

Which means I'm now removing the fuel rail from my old head to be installed on the new engine.

Who makes the cam you would like to use ? I ordered my schrick cams in November and haven't heard a darn thing yet. Not like I don't have more time but damn. It's been quite awhile now. I really don't wanna use the other set I got.

I will be making the cams for Tigger. He gets to run the prototype I'm designing for the N18. I think you picked the best one out there though for the N14 that's fully trackable but still manageable on the street.

Wohoo!!!!

Well the fat lady warmed up and she's a singing brothers. The HPFP is now five by five and Tigger is out of the intensive care unit. Test drive went great. Time to put the front bumper and other fiddly bits on. Then I get to pay the bill. Never thought I'd be happy to pay a bill. Hmm... hope the builder isn't reading this Ah the hell with it. I'm doing my happy dance...

this is the kind of post that makes me want to buy a motor and build one myself, flashbacks to my youth with my first 327ci build.

Thanks guys. With how much of a pain this build turned into I was beginning to wonder if maybe the good Lord was trying to tell me something. I hate to admit this but I actually started looking at late 60's Camaro's. Building a mouse motor would have been so much easier. I just can't give up my Cooper though. I mean a sledgehammer will do the job but wielding a katana is way more fun.

Glad to see this project is out rolling. I'm thinking about doing a full build like this next winter myself. For this year it's just a few safety things so I can get on the track more.

What's the upper RPM range on your build? Would 7000-7500 be possible with the parts out there?

The bottom end would definitely handle 7500 rpm. The N18 would be a poor choice for a screamer though. 7000 rpm is doable but that's pushing valve float. The problem is the extra weight of the intermediate rocker and the perch springs.

Unfortunately no. I noted a transitory rattle in the valve train. It only occurs at very light throttle application and quickly disappears. Based on my research there are four different class numbers for the rocker arms and intermediate rockers. By changing the cam to the earlier style it appears to have altered the valve train geometry enough to cause the rattle. Right now I'm trying to figure out what the dimensional differences are between the the different numbers so I can replace them with the right ones.

I think I may have mentioned something earlier about my disaffection for the valvetronic design. My opinion as of now has deteriorated to the point where it's not fit to put in print.

The learning curves is huge on this tiny car. How does the flowed head, feel? I know you have a lot going on at the moment and it maybe be hard to tell mQubed Motorsport, Manic Tuning Dealer
