R56 Jack Finally Earned His Stripes
Jack Finally Earned His Stripes
I picked Jack up from Inskip last Thursday. He's already got over 800 miles on the clock in a week.
I got my stripes installed yesterday at a local shop called Promark Graphics in Easthampton, MA. They're matte black. He'll also be doing my chrome black-out stuff too.
Additionally, I swapped out my bull whip antennae with a stubby one.

Looking good, Danigurrl! We have almost the same car with almost the same stripes. Go for the blackout - it works really well with the Spice Orange. I'm waiting for my gas cap and door handle caps from Aesthetic Creations and the beltline from Outmotoring (right now it's electrical tape). The only chrome I'm leaving are the scuttles. 800 miles in a week! You really are motoring! I'm going on three weeks and just hit 1,000.
I definitely prefer the blacked out look. I have the beltline vinyl from outmotoring, but it's too cold to install it here in MA. I'll be doing it this spring. I just bought the door handles from AC, but they were out of the gas caps. I also have the aero skuttles.
Most other mods won't happen until the spring, I just could not wait that long for my stripes. New England winters are usually abusive enough to not add any mods and just focus on keeping your car in one piece...yet this year we've been fortunate with no snow (other than a rouge blizzard on Halloween weekend.)

That October storm was surprising. I got stuck, and had to walk 5 miles home in the worst of it. The next day, when I went to dig out my MINI, I managed to get my Ram 4X4 stuck on the little farm access road where I ditched my car. Today I drove home with the sunroof open. Well I drove in this morning with it open too, but people didn't look at me like I'm an idiot on the way home :-D
Looks great! Did your installer say anything about doing the stripes now when the temps are colder? I have a sunroof graphic to get installed but I want to make sure it adheres well and I'm not sure how well it will "cure" in cold weather.

Not to take it too far off Danigurrl's OP, plasti-dip is really hardy.
Since its just a cover-up, I would suggest it for new cars without any pitted chrome surfaces.
Your door handles would work nicely too if the chrome is just discolored. If there are bumps or actual pits, just know that the plasti-dip will still show those. Any surface that is pitted is going to still show the pits.
Don't sand a smooth surface, just clean it, then spray it on. If it doesn't look good with one coat, allow to dry for a few hours and respray. I think my front chrome took 3-4 coats before my OCD self was happy with it. And the best part is that if you dont like it, you can just peel it off.

Minipuck, you are right to keep the thread on topic, I realized that shortly after posting. Anyway, thanks for the tips. I checked out their site, and realized it's the same parent company that makes a brand of liquid electrical tape that I swear by. I've used it to seal cracked motorcycle intake manifolds (rubber), and fork gaiters. And of course I remember the actual Plasti DIP (for tool handles) from 20+ years ago. Never used the spray, but I imagine it's got to be good stuff.
Thanks so much! I can't wait to finish up the black out stuff. I also hope to get my driving lights installed this spring and put my roof rack back on. I may try to wrap my roof rack in vinyl to cover the silver. I've seen a thread where someone used 3M carbon fiber-style vinyl on their roof rack. I like that.
Looks great. I like how you had them take the stripes allt he way down to the spoiler. I wanted my guys to do that and they were very reluctant. They have to rework my grill and headlights so I might have them finish it.
Great job!
Great job!
Thanks guys!
