R50/53 A few total NOOB questions
A few total NOOB questions
Hey guys, my car didn't come with a manual. I tried searching for the answers to these questions, but I didn't find any.
1. how the heck do I turn the high beams on
2. What is the circular button on the other side of the hazards on top of the speedo that has a picture on it that looks like the speedo?
3. How do I adjust the intensity of the interior lights
4. Where can I download a manual
2004 R53. Thanks!

1. Pull back on the left arm behind the steering wheel
2. See question #3
3. Push this button and hold it down or push it a couple times this either brightens or dims the interior instrument lights.
4. I have no clue try to see if you can buy one at the dealer??
Welcome!
A couple of answers:
1. Pull the left stick on the steering wheel toward you for high beams
2. I think that button makes the interior dashboard lights go dimmer and brighter. Push it several times to go one way, push and hold to go the other way
3. See #2
4. Not sure.
Good luck!

Try PUSHING the turn signal stalk forward to keep high beams on; pulling back only temporarily flashes the high beams for the R56, 57 models; while you indicated yours is R53, did you try this?

On my Mini, if you pull back until it clicks, the high beams will stay on. This kinda confused me at first as well.
Interesting to know what that odometer looking button was. I figured it couldn't have anything to do with the odometer as when I figured out how to reset the computer after an oil change it was never used. I'll have to try it out next time I'm in the Mini.

I lol'd here. Number 2 answers number 3
For a PDF manual - Register on Owners Lounge.
https://ol.miniusa.com/
You must have your VIN # to register. Must be U.S. market MINI.
Go to [Your MINI] menu.
For the high beam - Did you try pushing the stick forward toward the dash?
That's how my '10 Clubman works.

Alright I'm just a moron wit the lights. I have no idea why I couldn't figure out the high beams the first night (to make myself feel better my sister had issues with it as well).
Thanks for the link to the online manuals Klricks, I'll register and get them there.
I think I have all the rest of the buttons figured out. Although, it appears sometimes the passenger window is one touch down, othertimes, it's not.

Both the windows should be one-touch. They are also controllable, you can stop them anywhere. The car knows what you want by how long you hold the button. Sometimes just a moment to long on the button makes the car think you want to have full control. Sometimes too quick of a jab at the switch, puts the window all the way up or down, when you really just wanted to move it an inch or two. It takes a bit of getting used to....
If you want an original hard copy of the owners manual then do a search on ebaymotors.com. They show up there quite frequently. I had the same problem and bought a replacement on ebay.

I think they only have the owners manuals on-line. None of the supplemental manuals.
For one touch up or down it must be a quick toggle. 1/2 second or maybe less. Note that no windows including sunroof will move if any door is open.
