North American International Auto Show pics

I posted this in the NAIAS thread in the MINI forum but I'll put it here, too: I've got some pictures from the NAIAS up here. And I've just realized that I have a whole directory that I forgot about so I'll probably be adding more, later.

Great photos, but you made the MINI look 75 feet long with that camera angle and lens choice.

Ah, that's the new long-wheelbase version!

Thanks!

Great work!

I love this one.

Also, you had some great shots of the Audi A3. I'm waiting to drive a VR6 DSG.

Hey, thanks! Can you tell I recently got the 10.5 mm fisheye? Trying to resist the temptation to use it for everything.

The A3 looks nice, as does the Mercedes Compact Sports Tourer Vision B, which apparently is pretty much the forthcoming B-Class Merc. You'll have to tell us about your A3 VR6 drive.

Yeah, I had a feeling that's the lens you were using.

I was recently window shopping the 10.5mm and the 12-24mm at B&H, looking for a way to go wider than my current 18mm.

The 12-24 would be more generally useful and is something I'd like to get at some point, too. The 10.5 is great fun and it's interesting to try to find uses for it that aren't too obvious. It's also fun to try to shoot verticals without getting your own shoes in the picture.

Capture has a de-fishing feature that works with it and it's not bad, though there's a lot of stretching at the edges when it converts to rectilinear and you can see that in large prints. It's much better just used as a fisheye, though the de-fishing can be useful at times.

Are you able to adjust the amount of post processing "rectilinear" behavior, or is it just a go/no go kind of thing?

Yikes! I took my rebel to the LA auto show today. Contending with a bazillion people was not fun. Plus the two shortest focal lengths I have are on the 18-55mm (read light but junky) EF-S kit lens, and the 28-75 Tamron (VERY nice lens).

The 28-75 actually worked pretty well for quickly alternating between wider angle and closer up shots. Bad news is that I needed something in the 10 to 20 range. Too bad they don't make a bad **** 12-70 or something.

It's an all or nothing thing.
