I am also going to replace the 10'-12' of wound up signal cables that run from the AV unit to amps. They only need to be about 2' long and it makes a real mess. It looks like someone used whatever they had lying around to wire up your system. I'm running a 10amp battery charger to keep your battery from going dead. I wouldn't advise running the stereo with the car off for long.

Weird, the Swi-X steering wheel control module? I never would've thought of that item as one of the culprits for my nasty stereo problem. So what keeps draining the battery dead if the positive lead for the stereo isn't connected? It sounds like there's a ground issue somewhere causing the battery to lose its juice. I like having my stereo wheel controls & not having to fumble around for the remote, so is it possible to replace the LED connection or do I have get a complete new Swi-x?
Oh, can I have the stereo cables back? Maybe I can use em' for something else down the line. You're making major headway Dr.Steve!!!

I have a long-term love/hate relationship with my Mini. For better or worse, I'm sticking with the Frackmobile. If I were to get a new car, I'd probably get a Smart or the Exige S.

We are addressing the past malpractices and the Frackmobile will be better than new. Swi-X steering wheel control module itself is not the problem, only the installation. Stranded wires attached by one strand, no excess length so the wires are stretched to the limit causing any movement to break a connection. It's a wonder this stuff worked at all. Question: is there an FM receiver with this system? I pulled out an antenna wire with an adaptor with a broken wire that was stuffed back inside the dash. The head unit wiring diagram doesn't show an antenna connection, but I don't have the user manual so I'm not sure what's supposed to be there.

Ahhhh so, young grasshoppa. <said in my best David Carradine accent>
If the Swi-X was super-stretched (which it probably was) do I/we need replacement parts so everything is in proper working order? There is a connection for an antenna (on the back of the Pioneer brain unit), but I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't listened to the radio in my car in years. Shoot, I barely know what radio stations are in Fresno. Oh, I can drop off the user manual if you'd like tomorrow since I'm giving Chris a ride back to work. The electronic file is 20.2 megs, so it's past the e-mail phase for my .Mac server.

If parts are available for the Swi-X, all we need is the remote LED. Brain unit? Is that the head unit? The wiring diagram shows the FM unit as a separate part and I haven't seen it in my travels.

Well, there's the head unit (in the dash), which is really a display & processing unit. Then there's the brain/controller which is in the back under the NO2 bottle. If the FM unit is separate then I don't have it, which is a-ok. I'll hop on Swi-X later this morning to check out parts availability/applicability.

I think I still have the info on your wifes car, and will get the filter. Are we going to be doing this all the time? If so, I will get a few of them.

Calipers should be here by 11am tomorrow, then Steve will do the install. Should be fine after that.

Yea I think you guy's will be doing these, as long as the price is good . As little as she drives, I think 2 filters would be ok for now. I'm thinking I will take a half day off next week and bring maybe both cars down? What you think?

I'll be by before 11 to drop the car off then. About how long do you think it will take?

Depends on when the parts get here. I don't want to start before that because you wouldn't have a car if the parts didn't arrive for some reason.

SCCA Auto-X back on @ Castle

The final signing and details aren't done yet but it looks like we'll be running Solo2 events at a parking lot at Castle this season after all. This is the old site that was used for year before we got the 10 acre site we all know and love. This pad is approx. 4 to 5 acres and is amoungst the buildings in the middle of the base. Check the SCCA website in a few days for the new season schedule.
