Mini Meet East, 2010

Next year's MME [Mini Meet East] will be in Dayton, Ohio, in early July, so I expect a good turnout from y'all. If you love Classic Minis, as well as all sorts of our "new" MINIs, this is THE place to be.

thanks, yeah I wanted to meet the group but I Started walking around the place and lost track of time. I wanted to talk more with Matt and check out Douglas H's car also, but you just start talking and the time flies. I finally have Saturdays off for a little while and I am going to try to go to the Tim Horton's on the 3rd Saturday. I am trying to go to as many events as I can.

I'm not sure just when the website will be posted, but from what I understand, the hotel will be a Holiday Inn near Wright State University [off I-675]. If you are at all familiar with MME, you'll know it's not just a carshow, but a chance for people from other states to see what the area has to offer. So, there are some drives, scavenger-type hunts, as well as autocross, chances for our guests to visit the U.S. Air Force Musuem, as well as other places to visit during the days of th event.

It's bigtime fun. I've participated in 3 in the last 5 years [Dublin, OH...Frederick, MD...Alcoa, TN] and am looking forward to this one, too.

How receptive are the classic Mini owners to the BMW MINI people? I have heard some of the classic owner making some snide remarks about us. The funny thing is many us would love to have a Classic. Has anyone attended one of these Mini meets in their MINI?

A Mini is a MINI.... = )

It has been my experience that some are & some aren't. Some own both & love the new ones as much as the classic ones. We have 4 classic owners who come to our events once in a while. 3 or them also own new MINI's.

I guess that is just part of life, everyone has a different opinion & different likes & dislikes. Personally I can't understand a classic Mini owner not welcoming the friendship & camaraderie that new MINI owners want to share with them.

God willing I will be in Dayton for MME 2010....

it doesn't bother me, I like old and New, and New New. My brother has both and both are great cars. I go to the germain car show and there is one thing that I don't like there. When the New cars and old cars compete in the same catagory. It doesn't seem fair. Every british show I have been to keeps the cars in seperate catagorys so I say more the merrier. In the classic club (COMO), I think hafe of the owers have a new mini.

Speaking for myself I don't have one, but they are still MINI's & to me that is a good thing. Some of my good friends have them & love them.

Now when that MINI SUV crossdresser comes out I will be one of the folks who dislike them. Not a MINI at all.

to tell you the truth, I don't know the difference between the new and new new. I know the new new has a turbo instead of a super charger. maybe someone can help me out.

its still a mini

Jason the way I see it, the new new is faster. Yes new new has turbo & a French engine while the old new has supercharger & a Brazilian built Chrysler designed engine. The old new is still fast & it's a bit rougher around the edges. I guess more direct in its actions. For me most of the changes in the new new come from the smoothing of those rough edges to appeal to a larger non-enthusiast market. Oh yes, & that French engine. BMW/MINI wanted to sell more cars so that is the direction they went in & I understand it. I've driven both & the new new ones are defiantly smoother. I don't mind that smoothness, but others hate it.

EDIT..... One more thing. The price of the new new ones has gotten quite a bit higher. Unfortunately the MINI is not the value it once was.

Glad you are felling the MINI love. Now I'll have to call off the angry mob on their way to your house.

No, that group had tar & feathers.

I offered Allen some Hydro on Friday. He looked at me & said he didn't do drugs. I even told him the first taste of Hydro was free.

I was really excited about it, then I did a search for more info (before the website was up and running)...and a lot of what I found were new MINI owners saying they did not feel very welcome and so on...these are maybe the rare instances and of course a lot of people will only post the bad...
In our little group there seems to be a lot of Mini/MINI love all around!!!

Maybe at the next breakfast we can do a side by side compare. I personally love all of them.

I was just was wondering because I will have to take some vacation for these days and I don't want to waste them being at a event where we are really not wanted. I guess I just want to be in a world were new MINI's and Classic Mini live in harmony.

I say don't worry about it, this coming from a classic owner. Go and have a blast. I will be useing my vacation days too. I think sometimes there is a little bit of seperation. Classic owners want to learn more about other classics and the new owners want to learn about other new minis. I love both and want to just have fun. We all have the same goal, to have fun with our cars.
