Quaker Steak and Lube British Car Nights - not on the calendar yet, but see THIS SITE for updates

-------------------------------------

The purpose of this thread is to suggest club activities. Please provide the following info (if applicable) when listing your suggestion:

Date and time
Location
Expected Cost (if any)
Maximum number of participants
Description of event

The goal is to assemble an Event Calendar that club members can access to find out what's happening on any given date or weekend. MINI Mornin' is a great activity, but all of our other events just be planned in here, and history has shown us that the vast majority of MINI owners don't even know about NAM or read threads in here.

I'll kick this thread off with an event I've been considering:

MINI Spring Cleaning and Photo Shoot

Date and time: TBD - some time after it gets above freezing and the trees start to bud.

Location: Matt's house in Dublin, Ohio, followed by a trip to the "photo barn" used in Matt's car photos

Expected Cost (if any): None, but it is suggested that participants bring their own car cleaning supplies, as Matt has only a limited supply of personal car care products.

Maximum number of participants: As many as want to attend

Description of event: I propose we start the day with a full Spring Cleaning event. I can accommodate about 7-10 cars in my driveway and front lawn for car washes, and I have a Porter Cable random-orbital polisher for those wanting to use it. I also have a Shop Vac. If anyone needs access to polishing products, I'd ask you chip in a few dollars to replace them, or you can bring your own polishing pads and products (Griot's cleaning supplies are available at Outmotoring - let me know if you need details).

In the late afternoon we will drive to the "photo barn" used in the images at the bottom of this thread for a photo shoot. Matt will take pictures with his digital SLR or provide photo tips on how to take good car photos if you have your own camera.

The photo shoot is free of charge and images will be sent via email for free, or burned to CD for a small fee. Digital images can be printed at Cord Camera or any photo lab that can print from JPG images.

LOCATION PHOTOS:

Amish country lunch drive.......

A LAME all organic Amish country drive for lunch & site seeing.

After our LAME club meeting & trip to Outmotoring I'm planning a back roads drive up to Amish country for a LAME lunch.

The tentative date is April 19 or May 15. Those are MINI Mornin breakfast dates. This could be changed to any Saturday date if it seems like too much for a breakfast mornin day.

I was thinking about either of these dates. The May date is the Saturday before the Brit show at Quaker Steak & Lube. I'm thinking most folks won't want to clean their MINI's after a days worth of back road bug killing to get ready for the show.

Chime in with your thoughts on which date please. Or another date you feel may be more suitable.

Location: We will leave from Outmotorings parking lot. Time TBA

COST: There is no cost other than your gas & your lunch costs.

Maximum allowed to attend: Come one come all.

Description: We'll leave Outmotoring after breakfast & head N.E. into twisty road country. We'll see such wondrous places as Warsaw, Nellie, Blissfield, Kilbuck & Cooper's corner. We will stop in Kidron to see how the other half lives. We can try & do a group picture of MINI's in an interesting location. There'd be no cost for that or for a photo CD if one is needed. Visit Lehman's Hardware & then head west to Shreve to check out the outdoor drilling equippment museum & Des Dutch Essenhaus restaurant. From there we'll head to Nashville to see Elvis, go through Danville to say hi to Dan. From there we head to Amity & south to Mt Vermin. We'll stop at the leather shop where Allen can get leather mirror caps. Then a stop at the art gallery next door to soak up some culture before returning to Cowtown.

We will be doing another Griots Garage detailing demo in or around May-June for those interested....last time we had Ted do a polish and wax demo and the turnout was GREAT...it would be in conjunction with one of the MINI mornins...

I would propose a River Run so we can hit the Buckeye Dragon and get dam good pictures (sorry bad dam joke, there is an actual dam on the drive). If people were intrested we could make this a two day event and run some WV twisties and stay in Wheeling. Chuck has a good route for the Ohio portion and I could put together a pretty good WV loop.

Keep the suggestions coming... We can make separate threads when we finalize dates/times/locations. This was meant as just a brainstorming thread.

FYI - I'd be more likely to attend the Amish thing in April (weather permitting) than May - that's right after MOTD and I think I'll be very full-up on MINI stuff by then personally...

AARON - Any chance we can combine the Griot's thing with the "Photo Shoot" event at the top? Sounds like there's some duplication in the two events. I know it's convenient to do it at Outmotoring since you have inventory on-hand though, so if you want to keep it separate, that's fine - I don't expect we'd have a huge turn-out for the Spring Cleaning anyway...

Dates!

All of these sound like GREAT trips! I need some dates in order to get the days off work...the third sat works well for me, since I already plan on having that day off each month...and we could meet for breakfast at some other Tim's

I like the sound of the car detailing workshops/gettogethers (i could use some help in this department anyhow! ) and the trips to Amish twisties and I've never heard of the "Ohio Dragon". Some 'dam' good pics would be nice as well!

To stay on topic and post my own suggestion:
Hocking Hills Motoring & Hiking -- My wife and I (and Sammie the boxer) took this trip this past summer and it was a very nice drive (see attached). Plus we could stretch our legs for a bit and do some hiking. While not a super-twisty road, 374 was pretty decent, assuming you could avoid the "sight-seers" . No idea on date yet...if people are interested, we can go from there. (pdf is from http://consumer.discoverohio.com/con...outhern.asp#sh)

Let's Go!

Aaron tell Ted after a long hard winter my legs need a good waxing. With Griots products of course. Thong season will be here soon. Gotta look my best.

If there was enough interest I'd like to do a 2 day run in S.E. Ohio with an overnight in Marietta & a W.V. loop. What do you think folks.

I would be in for that my parents live about 40 miles up Rt 7 from Marietta and WV has some great roads in that area.

And who is this Allen who went driving Sunday? I feel like I am being cheated upon!

Any event that includes "Engine Detailing/Cleaning for the MINI" would be cool with me. So far all the ones posted seem attendable.

Why has this thread stayed OT for so long? Is Mark in TX again????

My bad, I just read the Crashton and rigidjunkie (Allen) "makeup" post. I guess that could be considered OffT.

Kimoz, if we want we could plan a fun way to get down to the Amish outing. Or any other outing. I hate driving down 271 and 71. Let me know if you are interested.

Those are good places, but not on my LAME agenda this time.

You could swing on down to Kidron & then go over to have lunch with us LAME folks in Shreve.

If you are interested I could do a back road trip tic for you. Figure 2.5 hours via state routes.

I was just reminding myself of how north I am to you guys. Mafia Village is close to the edge, be careful of sleeping with the fishes. Silverbacks and Weedhoppers are welcome any time.

I'd need notice though to make sure I have enough food available, I do have a Weedhopper/Silverback of my own in training. (Example - 1 box of pasta and loaf of garlic bread for him tonight, spawn and I were glad to get anything)
