I'm not sure if there would be intrest but we've run this on the bikes several times and with GREAT photo oportunities beutiful scenery (especially fall)
Ashtabula county has a large quanity of covered bridges ... Both routes is around 60 mile loop http://www.coveredbridgefestival.org/bridges.htm
They do have a "festival" too but you can run this any time you want...
Also there are numerous wineries (with restaurants) for food stops ...
From Columbus it'd be a LONG haul and back but there are tons of bed and breakfasts/hotels if you want to lay up for the night... We rode up from Akron ran the loop ,ate , and returned and it was a Full day, but it was festival time and each bridge had crafters, food, drink vendors plus LOADS of traffic ... Many of the bridges are Active meaning you can drive thru them, others are no longer used and are just to look at ...
LMK if there would be intrest

Scenic Route 78 - "Rim of the World"

As a few of you already know... I'm not a flat lander, I'm a Southeastern Ohio guy, born and bred... I miss the hills and woods of perhaps the most beautiful part of our state.

One place my Harley friends and I would often plot poker-run routes to was the "Rim of the World," Ohio Route 78, that runs from Mcconnelsville to Glouster, Ohio. A fall run there when the leaves are just right on this road, guarantees unbelievable views...if you have never been on the "Rim of the World" your jaw will drop at the beauty it provides... a Club run there could be a relatively close, eye-opening experience, for some who don't have the opportunity to get out of Columbus often.

Just found this link, it says it all, I add it here: http://www.antiquecar.com/legendary_ohio1.php

At one time early in my career this area was part of my sales territory. I had forgotten about how great a drive this is. You need to add this to your list of things to do. Thanks Terry for reminding them

I've done a lot of running around the NE part of Ohio. Ohio Winter Rally runs through that area & it was great climbing down the hills to the river cross a cover bridge & climb back out of the valley on the other side. Way big fun in the middle of the night on a snow covered road while trying to maintain a 45 mph average speed. The snow was what made the roads challenging. Without snow the roads are somewhat boring, but the bridges are still very scenic.

An idea ???

Terry those are great roads down there.

I am planning on doing a drive down in SE Ohio. When I get done mapping & doing a route I'll let you you guys know.

As of right now I'm thinking of doing a drive with an overnight stop Saturday night followed by a return drive Sunday.

What do you think?

OK Terry SR 78 actually stops in Clarington Ohio where it intersects SR 7, I only know because I grew up there. Where did you grow up, as a river rat I too miss the fun roads in the hilly part of the state.

OK, here's the current SUMMARY of ideas proposed in the first 4 pages of this thread - if the dates and places are correct, I'll ask Terry to add them to the calendar. I also suggest starting a new thread in here as a reminder within 2-3 weeks of the event, just in case people are reading threads in here but not checking the calendar.

NOTE: there were a few very general suggestions for other events, without any specifics amd without many replies (pro or con). If you have more complete info for an event, please add it in here with a note asking for feedback - naturally I'll add any event that more than 2 cars expect to show up for.

Also note that there are 2 events in need of an official point person to make the final arrangements - if you want to volunteer, please don't be shy.

Thanks guys! Here's my current list:

----------

EVENT: "Ye Olde Mini Cruise In"
DATE/TIME: May 18, 2008
LOCATION: The Pub 19304 Detriot Rd. Rocky River, OH (near Cleveland)
ORGANIZER: Matt (Imagox) (Note: This is not a MoM event per se, but Matt is inrerfacing with the NE Ohio club - see THIS THREAD for convoy details).

----------

EVENT: Spring Cleaning and Car Shoot
DATE/TIME: Sunny Saturday in April or May (exact date TBD - wait for green leaves and sunshine )
LOCATION:210 Reddington Drive, Dublin 43017, then the "photo barn" in Dublin.
ORGANIZER: Matt (ImagoX)

----------

EVENT: A LAME all organic Amish country drive for lunch & site seeing
DATE/TIME: April 19 (confirmed)
LOCATION: TBD
ORGANIZER: Chuck (Crashton)

----------

EVENT: Griot's Garage Demo and Car-cleaning Seminar
DATE/TIME: May or June at Mini Mornin'
LOCATION: Outmotoring
ORGANIZER: Aaron (Outmotoring)

----------

EVENT: Ashtabula Covered Bridge Tour
DATE/TIME: The 2007 event was in October - we will either wait for that event to come around again, or do our own event in the June/July timeframe.
LOCATION: For the route, see: http://www.coveredbridgefestival.org/bridges.htm Assembly point is still TBD (it'll be some place with breakfast and coffee, never fear).
ORGANIZER:Jeff (Bad Venge)

----------

EVENT: "Rim of the World" Tour
DATE/TIME: TBD
LOCATION: For route info, see: http://www.antiquecar.com/legendary_ohio1.php Assembly location still TBD
ORGANIZER: NONE - Terry (SizeDoesMatter), since you've done this before, do you want to volunteer? mark (CHKMINI) has also been there - how about you?

----------

EVENT: Hocking Hills "Hike and Drive"
DATE/TIME: TBD
LOCATION: For info, see: http://consumer.discoverohio.com/con...outhern.asp#sh
ORGANIZER: Carve906

OTHER RELATED MidOhioMotoring Events:

Central Ohio British Car Show - May 18, Location: QSL at Polaris

I was thinking sometime this 'fall' maybe late Sept or early Oct. I know that Chuck had mentioned an Old Farts on the Dragon...so we'd plan around that. I prob won't plan anything out until we get much closer...although if you have ideas, dates, etc or just want to attend, let me know.

Web Site Update...

I wanted everyone to know that Aaron and I met this morning at The Outmotoring Shop... we've talked a few times by phone but this morning was the first time we've actually met face to face... heck of a nice guy!

The process of transferring the Site to GoDaddy and extending the Domain registration is well on its way... I am now the Technical contact on both the old and new site so we are hoping that the actual transfer will take place within the next couple of days.

I will be cleaning up the site's development area on my machine, I have a lot of miscellaneous stuff I've accumulated in that folder... and uploading the site, in its current form, to its new Domain ASAP. Once completed we will be able to go to www.MidOhioMotoring.com and have access to the site that you've all been helping to develop on my www.Terry-Shaw.com Domain.

A few things are working well for us on the prototype... the slide-shows and news feed I think are keepers. I've also asked Aaron to put together a Club History for us, he's the best person to do this... he even has pictures of the Club's very first event... I've been fairly meticulous about documenting the New MINI tracking process and was thinking about doing a page to help future members to track their new MINIs too...

The reason I POSTed this here is that I wanted to let you all know that I probably won't be updating the site until its up on its new Domain... we'll be live then and I hope at that point everyone will begin to ping me with ideas, updates and pictures that will help our club's new site grow into a useful tool that we can all enjoy visiting.
Thanks,
Terry

Thanks, Terry - I was actually composing a PM to you asking about the transfer when I saw this.

Will you require funding for the domain and hosting, or is that taken care of? We can still do a 50/50 raffle at the April Mini Mornin' breakfast if you have any out-of-pocket expenses that have not been covered - let me know.

Not to worry... I'm more worried about getting the site up then the 51 bucks it cost to do it... this should all go well and fast, I've already gotten a couple emails from GoDaddy... Aaron probably will be getting some from his provider soon... By the way... Great job on your story... very moving about her name Dawn!

Jeff (aka Bad Venge) has volunteered to organize the Covered Bridge tour - thanks Jeff!! I updated the event listing. I'm also posting the full listing to the FIRST post in the thread as an easy-to-find reference.

Terry - let me know what you need for the hosting - unless I hear otherwise, we'll plan to get some raffle tickets and do a 50/50 raffle at the April Mini Mornin' breakfast. If somehow we end up with more $$ than the hosting will require, we'll put it in a separate account to cover NEXT year's hosting costs.

Not a problem... Aaron and I spoke about the mailing list... if the club wants to take on those responsibilities we'll need to add some widgets to our GoDaddy account... or go to his current provider and buy services to host it... I've not had the opportunity to see the newsletter, so I'm not sure how extensive it is, but my first reaction is that I don't want to absorb those writing responsibilities... I don't mine being the techie behind the scenes but I don't want to face a monthly deadline. I have enough of those in my life as it is... In any case... if you or someone else feels motivated to step up to the plate... that will add a few bucks to the club's yearly costs. BTW there are two lists, one for the club, one for his business... the one for the club contains 350 email addresses and with its members approval that is the one we would own.

The MidOhioMotoring.com site is set up on GoDaddy and I have used their utilities to upload the clubs new pages, images and flash (I think, they're all there) to the new server. FTP is still associated with the old account so some of my checks and balances aren't available to me at this point. Aaron's current provider has 5 days to transfer the account to GoDaddy at which time the Domain Name Servers (DNS) around the world will begin pointing to our clubs' new site... so for now I've done all that I can except for checking the URL every once in awhile.

The newsletter was pretty much "as needed" and not monthly, so that's not an issue... We'll take it over when Aaron's ready to step aside. For now, since Aaron's still in Ohio and will be for the forseeable future, I'm OK with him maintaining it if he wants.

If he does NOT want to keep it up, we'll figure something else out. Aaron - feel free to chime in here buddy.

Hey Matt, I've deleted the driver improvement event. You should do the same. No need to list something that has zero interest.

If anyone is interested they should pm me & I'll get them the info.

****EDIT****

The date for the all organic Amish drive is April 19. Terry has it listed on the website.

Is the plan that those of us "in Charge" are supposed to start planning dates now...or just a general time/season of year?

Done and done Chuck... the listing above AND the reference listing in the first post have been updated. Let me know if the driver school/improvement event happens as an official event, and I'll re-add it to the list and calendar. Also, are you in fact the organizer of the "orgasmic" ( ) Amish LAME event? If not, let me know so I can change it.

If you are listed as the organizer then it's your baby - set whatever dates you like. Just check the calendar and other events so you don't accidentally get on top of someone else's event - we're too small to split the group if we can help it, but obviously it's not the end of the world if we do. Of course, if there's only one specific date or dates that work for you, go right ahead!! Let us know in here whenever things are finalized so I can change the master reference list in the first post.

I need to get with Terry and see how we can update the calendar as well. Any ideas, Terry? Should we simply allow registered users to post and edit their own stuff (easier, more convenient) or should we have some sort of "MOD"-level user that will do this (more work, but more secure)? I bow to your mastery of the medium...

LAME organizer here

Yes I am.

The driver school/self improvement event is dead. It had been killed. Resurrect it if you want to.
