JCW exhaust vs. others

I've searched and read about many members who have replaced their factory installed JCW exhausts with other aftermarket cat-backs, primarily because they want a better sounding exhaust note. What I haven't been able to find is much on performance gains or weight differences for aftermarket exhausts vs. the JCW exhaust, mainly on the factory/port installed 2006 JCW package. Performance/weight wise, is it worth the money? Can anyone enlighten me, I have a JCW on order due in next month and was wondering. Thanks.....

To compare the JCW exhaust is difficult because its part of the Tuning Kit. JCS isn't going to tell you how much HP it gains like an aftermarket exhaust. I have found only one post on all forums about this on MINI2 where somebody dynoed both the OEM JCW Exhaust against the Borla Sport and the Borla Sport was only 2 HP better.

I added the JCW catback exhaust to my 2005 MCS. It already has a 17% pulley, Alta intake and MTH tuner software. The uncalibrated butt dyno shows a distinct but minor increase in power.

There's a small burble to the exhaust when the RPMs drop quickly but other than that I think it's quieter than the stock MCS exhaust (which is great for me - the quieter the better in my book).

i have two friends that have JCWs, both 05s. The exhaust is quiter than the stock 05 MCS exhaust, which in my book is boring, but again, different folks, different strokes

I have an 06 JCW and think the exhaust sounds perfect. Exhaust sound is a very personal, subjective decision. I have heard that adding a Milteck header to a JCW exhaust system makes it sound wicked as hell though!!!

from experience..........

I have had 4 exhausts so far and the 5th is on the way (wms). So far the Borla has been my favorite in the sound and power range. The JCW looked nice on my car but it was BORING..... The Invidia sounds great but is missing on the lower end when compared to the JCW. The stock exhaust was...well....stock, and sometimes when I am on the phone in my car I miss the stocker Well now I am going in a whole new direction with the Webb system and looking forward to the gains my car will feel. So the JCW comes in just over stock on my list of exhausts. I am taking a risk but I am putting the wms on the top of the list from what I heard so far.

Take a good look at Larini. There are no hard bends in the whole system ( that's one of the design pieces I like about the Invidia ). If you are already commited to WMS you won't be disapointed.

On my JCW, I've swapped out the stock MCS header and JCW center muffler with Supersprint header and Supersrpint center muffler. Kept the stock cat and JCW rears on and the sound overall is just awesome. Slightly louder and a much deeper tone than before the change, nice burbling, and no drone. Nice!

That looks like a well sorted set up & it looks somewhat stock. I like it....

Thanks Steve! Yes, LOOKS pretty stock especially since it is on stock height (with FSDs) and S-lites, and like I posted earlier, its not too loud. I guess the only giveaway is the silver GT2 stripes from front to back!

you need to checkout a thread on the mini2 board being done by Roland of GTT in which they are measuring back pressure on factory and aftermarket systems.

quote

"Ok guys, we have now just completed another test on a car with JCW exhaust. (same boost, same rpm as before... etc etc).
The result was +3.75psi. (the higher this figure the worse the restriction). That in terms of restriction /back pressure makes it the worst so far. Even the stock system is noticably better. Check out the first post on this thread to see all the results so far.. I will put up pics on Monday .
Best Regards Roland Gt Tuning"
