resonatorectomy for my JCW

HI,

got my resonator removed from my 06 JCW this week. It now sounds great

I went to Eagle Muffler by Steve's Auto in LA. They did a great job! Highly recommended.

The car now has nice POPS and CRACKS from the exhaust and a deeper sound!

Did you notice on a cold start a rice rocket sount for a few minutes until the exhaust warms up. I've heard of this on a few JCW's. The sound goes away then sounds pretty nice without the resoator. Did they make a complete new pipe or just splice a pipe in. Thanks

good news

Thanks Hyper, Thats good to know that you like the sound. Chances are i will lke it also on my JCW. My good friend Ian is going to help me drop the res on my baby when the weather warms up.He's not a mechanic but he sleeps at a Holiday Inn select from time to time.

Hi,

They made a new pipe with bolt on flange. The resonator is very close to the flange and it is better to remove it with flange and have them make a new one.

Beside if/when you sell your car...you can let the new order replace it IF they want too....

I removed my resonator also. I used the section of the stock exhaust as my "filler" pipe to take place of the resonator. I can second the cold ricer sound , until the system warms up in a couple of minutes. A great cheap mod.

How much did it cost?
Is it too loud cruising at highway speeds?
I have the JCW too and think it's a tad quiet. Drove an '05 MCS and it had a nicer pop and burble thing going.
Anybody make a bolt on replacement pipe?

Thanks for the info. I had my resonator replaced at a local muffler shop who made a stainless pipe with flange and mounting hanger. Nice job but I get the ricer sound until warm.

Pipe installed about $100.00 in stainless.
JCW in England makes a replacement pipe but is not yet available in US.
Check their website for pics.

It is not too loud on the highway. Just slightly louder than standard JCW. You do get a louder sound under acceleration.

Cost $115.00

Spider,

I had them make a new pipe with a new flange. Kept the old flange on the resonator....just in case WHEN / IF I sell the car someone would like the resonator re-installed.

$30.00
For what. Unless you did it yourslf there is no way you got a replacement pipe made for that amount. Maybe a res. cut out and a peice of pipe added in.
