19% Jcw

Sorry about yet another 19 thread, but I can't find it (and yes I've looked)

My car is an 03 w/jcw (WITHOUT THE NEW UPGRADES)
I want to swap out the pulley for the 19 and was told that it would work just fine, no s/w needed or injectors, but that I would need the larger Intercooler.

Is there anyone out there with a jcw and a 19 without Giac and larger injectors?

Thanks,

Louay

You don't need a larger intercooler, especially if you just run on the street.

There's the odd track day here and there, but even that is 8 20min sessions over 2 days...so I can get away with just the 19? Wohoo

Thanks,

L

What are you trying to go for? A 19% pulley will work even on a stock MCS with no problems. What you do with it, depends on your goals with your car. If you are thinking of racing this car, a 19% may not be the best route. If you are looking for maximum performance and want to push the car even more to match the 19% pulley, you may want to look at larger injectors and an ECU upgrade. Most mods can be made standalone, but most mods also are meant to continually build on each other. If you are looking to push your car, I would say sell the car you have now and purchase a new one. Once you start modding your car, the residual value associated with a JCW will drop. Your car is no longer a stock JCW, but a hacked JCW. You would get more money selling it now without modding it. Then purchase a new '05, which has more power to begin with and then start adding on a 19% pulley, injectors, chip..... You won't blow as much money. No reason to pay a lot for the JCW, then pay even more junking the JCW parts you just paid for to replace them with newer parts.

My car was involved in a serious accident, so selling it is not an option, unless I'm just willing to recover the cost of the JCW. I just want more power throughout the range, and the 19 seems to do that. I don't want the ultimate track car, "I just want more power captain"

I would agree with you. But if you want more power throughout the rev range, then you might as well be prepared to junk the whole JCW kit. Because there are a million other things that will give you more than any of the other components of the JCW kit. The ultimate combo would be the 19%, upgraded injectors and GIAC chip. This gives you some decent power across the range at a fairly cheap price. I am suprised greatgo hasn't chimed in yet, but I think I just spoke for him.

I pmed him on the subject and he was nice enough to give me his opinion, but I think I've decided on just getting the 19 for now, and if need be I can get the rest later...
If I understand correctly, they only recomend the larger injectors if you want to use the Giac...

According to Greatgro, he had the 19 with stock ecu for a while, and liked it....so I'll be taking that route as well

Does anyone know if the jcw pulley is a 2 piece or a one piece? ie do I need a special tool to remove it, or is the normal puller good?

Thanks,

L

It is a one piece that is removed the same as the standard pulley.

That complicates things, since the JCW pulley is close to the 15% in size reduction, and the pulley removal tools on the market are machined to fit the larger stock pulley. I would expect that existing tools will not adequately grip the JCW pulley. I wonder if anyone has bothered to custom machine one for the JCW pulley yet?

A better bet might be to find a stock late 04 or 05 supercharger on ebay, and install a 19% on that. Then, swap out the entire supercharger, and keep the JCW unit in storage. That way, you can have your 19% cake (including coated rotors) and still be able to return the car to unmodded JCW spec later if you want to do so.

On a friends car I found that the Alta S/C pulley puller is a little loose but works just fine on the JCW. I wrapped a piece of leather around the JCW pulley and it worked even better.
I however chose the other path; I replaced the complete S/C so that it may be restored at some future date.
As for the other question posted here I have found that the software included in the JCW kit with update works very well with a -19% S/C pulley or equivalent.

thanks for all the info...I looked at ebay for a used sc but didn't find any, so pulley puller with leather it'll have to be.

Thank you all,

Louay
