What's your thoughts on the the value of removing the Cat? I have a Dinan Elite and the JCW Pro (2 piece) exhaust, Cat interferes with the iSweep brace, thought about having a piece fab'd up to bypass the Cat.

You still have the primary cat? Removing the secondary will increase exhaust sounds a little bit, and change the tone. Performance increase will be minimal.

I have the one closest to the motor, the resonator is not part of the JCW Pro exhaust. A muffler shop said they can make a piece up to bypass the "main" converter for a few hundred bucks.

Would it pass inspection in your state?

At the risk of asking the obvious...

Cheers,

Charlie

Not officially. I'm in MA. I could always bolt it back on too. Would the sound improve or would the car lose to much back pressure? Theres no MAP on it.

Well heck.

I would take a pass on that, and find another way.

On a different note - what would it take to tempt you to Devens later this spring for a bit of autocross? ;-) Note our cars are darned similar (except for the wheels and alignment). Most fun you can have and be safe...

Je's sayin'...

Cheers,

Charlie

Doubtful, although I've not searched for them in Ayer.

Not the best spectator event I'm afraid, but should ever be interested in joining the fun we've a very good novice program, National Champions as instructors, and are always delighted to welcome newcomers....

Cheers,

Charlie

Find the right exhaust shop that can make a pipe that will swap on and off easily. Then you can put it back on if/when you need it for emissions testing.

With the upper cat still in place, all you’ll be doing is changing the exhaust sound. You might gain a slight bit more power from an increase in exhaust flow, but it will be secondary to the sound.

I have had mine removed for the last 80,000 miles with no issues. You need to back off your O2 sensors with old school spark plug spacers. The only time all through a check engine light is if I fail to run premium gas. It passes inspection here in North Carolina. But they don't use a sniffer they just see if you have me OBD2 codes.
