I posted this question on the mini 56 forum, but no one has answered, but there has been a lot of interest, so I thought I would try this forum as well as the F56 hatch forum.

1. ELECTRONIC DIFFERENTIAL LOCK CONTROL
Lock control (EDLC). If you’re a confident driver, and want full engine power with near-complete control, you can switch off DSC and DTC. But MINI still keeps you safe. EDLC kicks in when needed, to prevent slip and stop wheel-spin during aggressive cornering and acceleration.

2. DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL
Stability Control (DSC). DSC is proven to reduce accidents. Intelligent sensors detect if you’re veering even slightly off course. DSC then activates to adjust the engine torque, and applies brake force to individual wheels where needed. You’re in safe hands.

3. DYNAMIC TRACTION CONTROL
Traction Control (DTC). DTC provides the best possible driving force on every surface, even slick or sandy ones. It also restores power to the engine sooner than DSC, and lets the car slide a bit before correcting its course, which is kind of fun if you’re into your driving thrills.

However, there is only one switch regarding traction control. Unless, there is one that I am not aware of. Am I missing something? I thought I knew all this, but obviously not!

 

Press the switch once and DTC is gone. Press and hold the switch for (not sure how long, until the message changes) and the DSC goes away. No DTC gives the burnouts. DSC helps you turn without wheel spin. I felt the car was faster with DTC and DSC off on the autox track this weekend.

 

Thanks, from what I have gleaned from several other answers (I posted on several sites.) You hold the switch down for at least 3 seconds, but not longer than 10. I have not tried it with the ELDC option. I mostly do twisties, but occasionally track.

 

Hold switch down 3 seconds and some little light comes on on the center display somewhere. The guy who did my ECU tune said he raced a G2 Mini (autoX I think) with the DTC on and went through a whole set of rear brakes over several days because that system uses them a lot.

 

DTC or DSC?

DTC should reduce how much the computer tells the car to brake. DSC should apply more brake between the 2

 

DSC (default on power on - all safety systems on) --> DTC (quickly press DSC OFF switch. Prioritizes forward motion instead of stability. Will let wheel spin a bit more) --> EDLC (Press and hold DSC OFF switch. All stability and traction systems turned off including corner brake control, rev matching (M/Ts), auto up/down shifts (A/Ts). Won't turn off ABS. Works like an electronic limited slip.

Im a bit confused. My F56 clearly says "Dynamic Traction control Activated" when I hit my switch. The car slipping icon illuminates with "off". It does mention something about more traction control but less stability control. So when I hit the switch it seems to me that DTC is getting turned on, not off. If I hold the switch then it indicates that DSC is turned off, which makes sense.

 

The default setting is DSC, when you turn that off it enters DTC, and when you hold the switch down for 3-10 seconds it turns both off and you are in ELDC mode. These modes are numbered in my original post. I was pretty confused by this at first as well.

 

Correct, DSC is always on, you shut it off with the switch, activating DTC which gives more traction but lose stability. Thats the little yellow light you see

Is there any way to put everything off except the rev matching?

This is really something interesting on track!

 

So your best bet would be to hold the toggle switch for 3 secs, shutting off DSC and DTC. This is usually what I do in the non-winter months on dry roads.

 

so basically the car will be in ELDC? Which means no rev matching :(

 

Thats a great question. I never noticed if rev matching was deactivated or not. Its dry here so I will try it on my way home

 

When DSC is deactivated, it does indeed also turn off rev-matching.

All driver aids are turned off, including rev matching and hill assist.

 

without LSD cornering fast with a MINI is impossible.

 

Mine has EDLC, but not an actual LSD, and corners very fast. Eventually I will probably get a Quaife later on if I feel like it's neeeded, but the car has so much mechanical grip with the current setup, it's not a "must have".

 

I asked at the MINI Motoring School and they run 50%DSC on the racetrack and auto cross (could have fooled me as the tire squealing) and 100% or 0 on the wet skid pad to show the difference.

 

Despite all of this wisdom, I learned that as soon as you activate cruise control everything goes back to the default settings. After driving almost 8,800 miles, to include MTTS West, the only weakness in the car involved passing other cars on wet, uneven, different surfaces. Under those conditions, the traction control gets very active and can make things really dicey at high speeds ... possibly a real LSD is in the works before next time.
