Early model year reliability

I'm looking at a used 2016 with extremely low (<4,000) miles. I'm a bit concerned that the car will not have sufficient run time for mechanical issues to have come up, and the 3 year warranty is essentially gone.

Do the JCW models have any serious issues that I should look out for? I know the early MCS had some catastrophic piston issues--is that the case for the JCW as well?

Thanks!

The JCW has a slightly different engine than the Cooper S, specifically internally, the pistons are a lower compression, and the JCW was released in 2015. We have not seen any widespread reliability issues with any F56 model cars, with the exception of the manual transmission bearing issue that has been warrantied on almost all affected cars now. The 2016 you're looking at won't have those issues, and should be solid!

I have not really seen anything with the F56 JCW platform. There were some oil filter gasket issues, but that was covered under warranty.

I'm having cold start hesitation when going in and out reverse and drive (auto). My mini was in the shop since Tuesday. They said they can't duplicate the problem. Today I just got a text that they found VANOS Fault code. Will see what happen next

Isn't warranty four years and free maintenance three years? Or has that changed?

I had the same problem on my '15. Mentioned to service tech and he immediately said it was a software issue. They updated that during an oil service and it seems to have corrected the issue. Beyond that, three years and 26k miles of problem free driving.

I have 57,000 miles on mine and have had no issues except for premature tire wear. I have noticed a peculiar issue with AC in stopped traffic but that may be way car is trying to save gas.
