JCW exhaust upgrade

Hello guys,

I have been a long time lurker ever since I bought my jcw r60. Upon taking delivery I was disappointed that the factory jcw was so quiet.

So I have been talking to a buddy of mine who does private lable exhaust mfg top BMW tuners. He has offered to build an exhaust for my jcw R60 and possibly get into the Mini Cooper exhaust market if there is demand.

My jcw is at his shop getting worked on.

Some specifics:
3" downpipe back
T304 stainless construction
Rear exhaust muffler will be specifically made and tuned for the mini.

The goals for this project is
1. No drone at any rpm
2. Nice quality exhaust not and not being too obnoxious.
3. Weight reduction vs stock.

The prototype exhaust should be completed by this Friday so gopro vids will be up by the weekend.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned as modifications to my mini begin!

Save your money and the weight don't bother with a 3inch exhaust. 2.5inch is perfect for your MINI.

The factory JCW exhaust pipes are 2.5" after the second cat. Before the second cat it is roughly 2.125".

Prototype is installed...

So the exhaust will be offered in two ways.
1. Street version (rear muffler with adapter)
2. Race version (downpipe back)

The exhaust will be upgrade able if you get the street version the center race section can be purchased to make a full downpipe back.

So the exhaust is a 3" basically the stock JCW is 2.5" there is an adapter section which steps it up to 3".

Canister construction
3" inlet center
2.5" outlet left/right side

It's a single muffler that was specifically constructed for the mini, its not a recycled muffler with bent pipes to fit.

Ok now the most important thing sound/power...

Sound:
At first the sound was quiet just like the original JCW. Now I have about 800 miles and its beginning to get louder. The beauty of this is there is no drone at any steady rpm and even accelerating. There is a noticeable increase in tone but never obnoxious like other r60 exhausts I have heard.

gopro sound vids will be posted soon

Btw 80mph steady speed db noise is 83-85 peak this takes into account road noise and tire noise. Hard acceleration peak is 90-92db again including road noise, turbo etc...

Power:
Well the car feels free flowing especially spool up, it's more noticeable when accelerating from 30-60 or 60-80.

I wish the jcw package came with this exhaust for the price I had expected a sporty tone vs. a hush can.

Stay tuned for pictures and sound bites.

Some updates...

The car is back at the shop finalizing the mock up of the Downpipe to rear muffler section. For now I have been driving around with the rear muffler section and loving it.

The exhaust will be offered in two sections DP back and Axle back for those that want performance and are willing to accept more exhaust noise.

Anyway... as soon as they are done mocking up the front section i will record some audio/video files for you.

FYI:
Mini R56 JCW or Cooper S pipe Diameter is about 52-53mm
R60 S Pipe Diameter is 52-53mm
R60JCW is 62-63mm (2.5")

So once everything is finalize i think the R60S has more to gain jumping from a 2.25" to a 3" vs the JCW which is 2.5" to 3"

Anyway stay tuned... audio files will be up shortly.

The mid pipe was not completed because there were some tight bends and it turns out that you can't run a 3" under the motor.

So it looks like the front pipe which connects to the Down pipe will be a 2.5" then it steps upward to 3" all the way back to the rear muffler.

The JCW from the Cat down is 2", entering the secondary cat is 2" then the exit pipe from the second cat to the center resonator is 2.5" all the way back to the muffler

The exhaust once finalized will be 2.5" to 3" at this time we are unsure if a resonator is required to keep the exhaust tone under control.

*** This is a prototype exhaust for the R60 JCW so there will be more improvements in fit. The canister muffler was designed specifically for the R60 and this was assembled to test for sound.***

Things that will change on the production units.
- The S bent pipe will be 1 smooth mandrel bent piece
- Exhaust hangers will be more robust
- Fitment and exhaust placement will be more accurate in order to make the unit 100% DIY bolt on at home.

So at the moment I have pictures of the rear muffler installed on my JCW with the factory JCW thin wall exhaust tips attached to the bumper.

Sound clips will be up soon i need to edit the footage..

Thank you Eric @ SPP for the use of his facilities to test fit the exhaust.

Here is a video taken from the outside of the car.
GoPro was mounted on the rear hatch under the "Mini" emblem

Price is TBA as some things still need to be finalized but expect it to be competitively priced as NM Engineering exhaust.

Vid 1 of 2 (taken outside)

just realized footage of Vid 2 inside the cabin is crap.... need to retake this soon for you guys so stay tuned

Exhaust kits have been selling locally in SoCal. Have not really kept up on the forums..

Exhaust is sold under the Flieben name... Current distributor is leistung Autohaus (www.leistungautohaus.com)

At the moment all exhausts are sold out the next scheduled production run will be feb 2014.

Price
$950.00 using jcw tips
$980.00 using supplied 3" single wall tips.
shipping is about $68.00 (dimensional weight with in the 48 states).

This is designed for the jcw which is a 2.5" stepped up to 3".

Here is a clip of my nm Engineering prototype exhaust for the JCW Countryman. It sounds great. The way it should have sounded from MINI. I can definitely feel a throttle increase and a bump in mileage... a must mod for sure.
