JCW Air Induction System Diagraim?

So I was meessing with my JCW CAI on a 05 R53 today, getting ready to change the filter Monday when my Amsoil filter comes in.

Now I understand that the flap at the back of the CAI opens at 4500 rpm to pull additional air from the cowl, but it seems there is another intake that pulls air from the grill. I didn't take it apart, but there is a Y that sends one tube down, and a bump that looks like it may have some kind of secondary flap or air diverter.

Ayone have a diagraim of the induction system? Google didn't really help me.

Thanks in advance.

that "down" tube and side bump are to catch rain water (i figure) just by how it looks. it doesnt impede air flow in any way, and why else would there be a large, long tube? unless it was specifically to catch h20.

ive been wanting to mod this tube, make the intake scoop way bigger, i just havnt had the ***** to cut up the radiator holder to do so!

also, if you want to soft mod your intake, you can pull the arm out of the flap and prop the flap open. this flap was designed as part of the European noise restrictions; the flap keeps the noise "down", allowing this model mini to pass inspection to be allowed for sale.

Thanks, Actually removed the flap and bung plug when I installed the Amsoil filter last weekend. SC whine is a little more, but not distracting at all.

Next is brake job with ECB Reds, D1 throttle controller, and heated seats!

I was pretty impressed with the build quality, and a perfect fit. I'm working on making a little bracket to secure it a little better similar to the OEM plastic piece.

Please post pics of the process if you attempt it!
Also the "soft mod" are you referring to the "Flapectomy"/"JCM Mod"???

Does anyone know if there a difference between the Automatic and Manual CAI and hoses. I remember a rumor that the Automatic version was more freeer flowing???

Stock OEM

I noticed they are 2 different part numbers for Automatic and Manual on RealOEM, but the pics look the same? Maybe more efficient air for Auto version?
