JCW Certificate of Authenticity

Hi All,

You'll have to forgive the noob, but i have a question i'm hoping someone here can help answer.

I'm about to put a down payment on this mini:
http://www.ecarlist.com/showroom/1234/photos/440812#05.jpg

however, the dealer does not have the JCW Cert of Authenticity. The jcw kit # is S10868, and from all the available paperwork, looks like it was factory installed.

However, the reselling dealer does not have the Cert. He contacted the original selling dealer (BMW/MINI of Dallas), and they told him that if the JCW kit was factory, there would be no Cert of Auth, only applies to dealer installed and aftermarket.

Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? they said they can't order a replacement Cert, since it was factory installed....anyone?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide here.

I ordered my 06 JCW from the factory 7/06. It was delivered late 8/06. Included with the manuals, paperwork, ect. was my JCW certificate of authenticity. So yes, every JCW, factory or dealer installed, comes with a certificate. They are just BS'ing you for whatever reason. I'd be !
Your MINI looks like a beauty though!

Thanks MiniMaxx,

That's about what i thought. Does anyone know how to go about getting a replacement Certificate of Authenticity for a factory-installed JCW kit?

(Thanks, i think she's a beaut too!) but i am leery of buying her without the Cert of Auth. Is this a big deal if they can't produce it?

Thanks.

No, I doubt many JCW owners know what they did with their CoA. (Mine is framed.) Just because the dealership can't show one for a used car doesn't mean it isn't a JCW. Getting the serial number checked is the best proof you can come up with. As I could print my own CoA and have 'Mike Cooper' sign it for me too.

Shows how much I know... didn't even know this. Would this be in the owners manual or some sorts? If not, how do you go about getting it?

You have the kit number (S10868) call MINIUSA (1-800-ASK-MINI and ask them if they have it on record as a valid JCW Kit.

Nice looking car....I hope that they are going to remove the dealer name from above the "Cooper" on the boot!

Jeremy,

I called ASK-MINI, and they were very unhelpful, said they could not verify the authenticity of that kit by phone or otherwise. They said they didnt even have a way to look up the kit number. I spoke to a supervisor, same answer, and i even had the dealer that currently still owns it on the line (they had told me they would only release that info to the dealer that currently owns it).

WTF? How else could i get this verified?

Thanks.

(and yes, BunsenH, they already removed the "Sewell" badge on the boot)

My 2006 factory JCW car was delivered with a certificate showing the serial number of the kit. Frankly, each of the few times that I have called ASK-MINI proved to be a waste of time. I would try contacting the original dealership one more time. It looks exceptional in the photos--Wow!

It appears to be sitting pretty low. If you haven't checked it out, look at the springs and struts to see if it has a JCW suspension, too, which lowers the ride height by .5 - .75". The JCW suspension consists of springs and struts and would have been dealership or privately installed. I wish you luck and hope you end up with it. 10.2K miles? Nice!
