I forgot to weigh mine when I had tires put on but I believe they are about 18-19 lbs.

weight of GP wheels

From the MINI2 website: R107 GP ET52 19.8lb (9.0kg)

And I always thought they were in the high 17s or low 18s, imagine my surprise.

True... but as far as OEM wheels go, they are lighter than every other 18" OEM wheel and every 17" OEM wheel too! That by itself is impressive.

True, you can find lighter still on the aftermarket, but that's besides the point.

Now if only MINIUSA hadn't put an embargo on them, restricting the sale of them to only GP owners (and even then, only with close scrutiny as to why - such as replacing a damaged one).

+1 for every letter . I just got my set of 4 GP wheels. The shipping box weights 24lbs. The actual wheel wweights just a little more than 19.5lbs without a tire. If you really want a weight reduction, get rid of the runflat wheels too. Get regular tires like I did!.

If you Really want a weight reduction, ditch the OEM wheels, and get something like a 13-lb. SSR Comp in 16"...

Here's a pick taken few hours ago at one of the biggest Mini USA dealership for my GP wheels with Michillin SP tires. They are waiting for few other parts to join the package and have them sent to me:

A big +1 on the SSR Comp wheels. I've had the 16x6.5 Comps on my MCS since the spring of 2003. Makes a huge difference - improved ride quality, quicker off the line, a/c doesn't require slipping the clutch to get started, etc. Weight is just 11.9 lbs. Lose the runflats as well. Ranks
up there with the pulley as the most noticable mod.

Unless they have changed the rules , this was not true last year when I bought two extra wheels as a back up. I had to give the VIN # even before getting a quote but I did not provide or were asked additonal info.
