JCW Suspension @ Autocross
JCW Suspension @ Autocross
Has anyone autocrossed with JCW suspension? Just wondering what your thoughts are. Is it crap? or, suprisingly vigorous? I have a 2006 with factory installed JCW package.
We autocross often in our 2006 JCW. The suspension is great. Next step is to get better tires.
If I wanted to move to a different class, I would probably install the M7 strut bar, USS, and maybe rear chassis brace.
If you don't already have them, I strongly urge you to get the M7 Strut Reinforcement Plates. Ten minute installation job, will keep you from mushrooming.

I autocross my Cooper with the JCW suspension (and some more suspension stuff) and it works just great. Definitely not crap.
THUMBS UP for M7 plates!
Unfortunately, when I bought my 05 MCSC with JCW, I was told the JC works suspension could not be installed.
the tech at my local MINI dealer told me I could put it on, if I wanted, but I think I am going hold off. I don't want to change too much at once, and I recently added Rande Webb's Extreme rear sway bar. What a difference!
Thumbs up on the M7 anti mushroom plates. Mine had mushroomed on one side, don't know how or when, but there it was. Had it fixed and then my dealer put the plates on.

I already have the M7 Strut Tower Brace...and I just got new wheels and tires....
But, I dont want to change out my entire suspension, yet. SO, Im just wondering what people's experience has been with their JCW suspension.
So, it sounds like if I were to add one thing to beef up the JCW suspension, it should be a thicker rear sway bar?

I autocross with the JCW Suspension and brake kit. I also have an R-Speed rear sway bar. I installed the bar several months before I bought the suspension and brakes. It handles great!

I'd say start by not adding anything along with the JCW suspension.
If you really need to add something, adjustable front camber plates would be my choice.
I recently drove my Cooper and a MCS JCW GP on the same autocross course. Yes, there are many differences between the two cars, but they both have the JCW suspension (more or less). The GP was stock. My Cooper has a bigger rear bar, a smaller front bar, and adjustable camber plates.
On the really low speed stuff, my car had better turn-in. On the higher speed stuff, the GP was easier to control. My Cooper might have been capable of a bit more corner speed, but there was a chance in going for that little extra that things would go wrong. The swaybars are the big reason for this, I believe.
If the JCW suspension on its own isn't enough for you, front camber plates have lots of positives and very few negatives.
