WoooHooo!!! I got them hooked up last night. Man, my fingers and back hurt. But it was all worth it in the end. It looks great and seems to work well. I've got 2 questions though.

Q1: Under normal driving or idle the needle will drop to what I suppose is 10-20mm.HG of vacuum. Then when I get on it, it climbs to 15 PSI. Is this corrcet? I'm pretty new to boost gauges.

Q2: When I was testing for power using one gauge and everything worked correctly light dimmed etc. After final install, now the lights on the gauge dim backwards. Meaning as my dash lights dim the gauges get brighter and vice versa. I tied the 12v Power wires ends together and and tapped into fuse 36 w/ an add-a-fuse (5a), Tied the ground ens together and used a bolt in the footwell and for the 12v Illumination I tied the ends together and tapped into the grey and wire in the bundle next to the fuse box using a Radio shack tap-in squeeze connector (vampire connector, etc). Anyone know why they would now dim in reverse of the dash?

Shooler--
Thank you very much for all your help.

DarkMiniCooperS--
Thanks for the write up on the boost.

TonyB--
Thanks for info on the adapter.

Stoop--
Thanks for the Deal.

And thanks to anyone else who I got help or read info from. I leaned a lot more about my car with this install.

And thanks to the my producer, my director, my family, my friends, the costume designers, without all of you this would not be possible...Oh wait this isn't the Acadamy Awards.

I am glad you got it worked out. As for Q1, your boost readings appear normal to me.

My water temp and boost gauge are now installed. I enjoy the new look as well as the additional information. My only gripe would be that the lighting during the day is not strong enough to always be able to see the needles. I would have preferred a non smoked gauge face.

I think they're coming out with a non smoked version but I will mention it as well as brightening up the lighting. Thanks for mentioning it, it's always nice to get input :D

wouldn't that be true of the pillar in general then? LOL

there is no PILLAR air bag... only the skirt from teh roof... but the a pillar is teathered to allow it to move enough for the skirt bag to work properly... so... if yer pillar pod is properly attached... you should be ok... heh...

They are STRI X-line gauges. The bracket holding them next to the Tach is an ATI epod. you might want to check with rogue minis, look in the vendor list for them. or I think stoopidgirl has a link to the site on her signature.

Here I'll make it easy

Good to know . I know there's no actual airbag that comes out of the pillar (I've had them deploy, trust me I know where they come from). Just based on the movement of that piece, I wouldn't want to get hit by anything in a 60-80 mph collision.

So now that my gauges have been installed , I am wondering if others have the same complaint as me. It has been kind of frustrating not being able to see the needles on the gauges in most lighting situations during the day. For me at least the glass is too dark (smoked) and the light way too dim in either light on or light off. Maybe there will be a replacement glass face to clear someday.

Love-that's with the STRI gauges? I'd like to hear if there's more complaints liek that. I'll make a comment to the manufacturer but so far from what I know everyone has been really happy. I'd rather sell something good or sell nothing at all

Chris-Sorry I can't help you with the A-Pillar pod (your PM makes sense now LOL) I can look into what current deal I can get you on Defi or STRI gauges. So if interested, send me a pm with what you're after and I'll get you a quote.

Golden child has the correct link for the pillar gage pods you are looking for. When I opened it the picture did not show. Here is the link for LHD.

eek! I just realized I never pm'd Chris back....I'm waiting to hear from the manufacturer to figure out what I'm able to offer. Hopefully by the end of the Dragon I'll be able to post up another package deal

Love-Thanks for the input...so far it seems just you...hmmmmm? (I guess that's a good thing! maybe you're excentric LOL)

I'll say it. I have issues reading it in the sunlight on occasion. either the sunlight causes a real strong reflection on the smoked lenses or the light from the gauge isn't strong enough. I think it's the first and it can get hard to read with the sun reflecting off a dark lens.

I'm not complaining. I'm just stating what I see.

I wonder if that's normal for most smoked out gauges though. It seems like it would be pretty typical. But input is always good and I keep in contact with the manufacturers to let them know

I would say most anything reflective and dark would be a little hard to see through. Here is a good example...window tint. Even if there is light coming from within, it can still be a bit hard to see through given the right exterior lighting and reflections.

the only thing i can think off that would help is an anti-reflective coating. but then we are talking about a substantial increase in price.

I have seen the smoked gauges and I think that they look fine. If you go with a darker lens then it will be a little more difficult in direct sunlight. If your windows are tinted I think that would help. Also, a way to fix this would be to suggest an option to STRI of offering a polarized lens. Polarized lenses would be a bit more expensive, but could be well worth it. A polarized lens is designed specifically for what problem you are having.
Hope this helps some.
