New STRI gauges

I'm new to minis; just got mine a couple weeks ago. Looking to personalize it alittle.
I was wondering what you knowledgeable mini owners think of vender Rogueminis announcement of these gauges for the S at $165.00. Are they of good quality and how do you think they might look in our cars?

My mistake; they are STRI gauges

the brand name is 'STRI', very different than 'STI'

I just sent Stoopidgirl a pm asking for pics in a Mini. I'm also interested.

Also a bit surprised at the price, if all 3 gauges are really $165.

Wagnbat--

I think it's 2 gauges (boost and either oil temp or water temp) plus the epod mount. at least that is how I inderstand it.

Hey Love-Glad you're thinking about them They are of good quality, I've met with the manufacturers a while back and deal with them closely. This is a new line but they assure me they are held to very high standards. This is the first they've been introduced to the American market and are direct Defi competitors but for a fraction of the price. In the following months they will be releasing a more expensive but higher end line as well.

The gauges are electronic except for the boost which is mechanical. I hope this helps! :D Here's their link as well, there's a tab which has PDF's so you can see some of the specs on them.

Pat-thanks for looking out on the name (now I'm off to check my posts to make sure I didn't misstype it eather...leave it to me to do something silly)

It is 2 gauges plus the pod (still a very good deal though) It's just you get to pick between the oil or water.

For those requesting pics installed in a MINI, there aren't any as of yet so hopefully before the deal is over we'll have some.
The gauges are almost identical to the Defi gauges seen here...these are in the limited edition clear ePod which is not available for this offer but should give you a good idea of how they look
these are in the "Off" position

Ahhhh, my bad. I saw 3 line items, and then saw 3 gauges. I read 'one or the other' on the last line, but didn't pay attention. Teehee!

On a scale of 1-10, how hard are these things to install?

you silly

As for installation, I know they are pretty much the equivalent of most gauge lines, they come with the wires necessary. There is an adaptor that makes it a little easier but isn't needed. I always suggest having a professional install gauges because it is messing with electronics, or at least have someone there who has done some before.

I've been looking into these as well. The wiring doesn't seem to be that bad. There should be a few places to tap for gauge power around the steering column. The wire/hose will go through a grommet in the firewall into the engine compartment. The boost gauge will need to be tee'd into a hose underneith the intercooler. The oil temp gauge is 1/8 NPT and a few places carry a drain plug adapter that will allow you to mount this to the oil drain plug. I believe the MINI's plug is M14x1.5. Autometer has one of these adapters.

Stoo, how does the color match up with the stock gauges?

Quick question. are the temps going to be Celcius or Fahrenheit? I noticed they are C in the pics.

bat-- you gonna get them? I just can't make up my mind between water or oil.

I'm hoping to stretch it until the end of February. The manufacturer made it pretty clear that this is a one-time only deal that won't ever be repeated.

as for the other questions-I'm still waiting to hear if they come in both Celsius and/or Fahrenheit. But for the lighting I've been told they are as close as they can be to the stock lighting

Are the boost gauges only calibrated in bars and not PSI?

For those of you interested in that style of gauge (Smoked lense and Defi looking), I suggest www.prosportgauges.com also.

I had 2 gauges from my last car that I put in my S. The selection right now is better than STRI gauges and there are multiple colors.

Here's mine. (A/F not hooked up at time of pic)

I don't know much about the prosport gauges so I haven't looked into them to carry yet. I trust the manufacturers of STRI because I know them (which to me is a big deal) Like I've said before this is a one time special offer because they are a semi new line (especially in the US) so prices this low won't happen again. The line will be expanding very soon.

Larry-I'm checking on that so I'll have to get back. I assume they make it in both but you know what they say about assuming

Kell-I've been getting asked that question over and over(see post 6 ). Unfortunately the only answer I can give is that they look very much like Defi gauges (which are darn sexy in a MINI ), and give my word that they look good (I'm an art kid so aesthetics are a HUGE deal to me). This is a new gauge line which is why the manufacturer is allowing me to offer them so cheap, it is an introductory deal only. This price will never happen again. I am going to try and hold the deal open until the end of February so hopefully by then someone will have posted photos. Sorry I can't help more on photos.

for those interested in the package, here's the link to the vendor announcement thread

According to the anouncement the only variations we can get is boost+either oil temp or water temp.

I don't know if anything has changed since then.

I should get mine today or tomorrow, plus the black gauge faces from Cockpit Specialties. When I do, I'll put photos up. Hopefully it will be in before the end of this week. I'll send you the first photo Stoop

well I have ordered mine as well; the boost and water temp gauges. I am hoping that they install smoothly and are of high quality. Should be on by late next week if they ship as they said they would
