I have the whole aero kit, and if I were to do it again, I'd only colour code the aero grille and just install the side skirts. Both give the desired effect for a lot less $$$ - that could be spent on go-fast-bits

buy my bumper, the aero grill mod's already done! It's actually much faster to install the whole bumper than it is to do this mod.

Did you have to remove the bumper to install the bumper part of the aero grille?

nope.
no need for that.
just pop off the stocker, then break out the mini saw/die grinder/mini sander, etc. and put aside an hour or two in order to get the bumper grill to look like your stock bumper grill.

then check fit it to your stock bumper and you'll notice none of the tabs line up with any existing ones, so mark with a razor blade where you will need to make new slots for the new grill tabs, check fitment, cut new tabs then with a small drill open up the new slots so that the new tabs can slide in nicely.

You'll be at it for a few hours total before you actually get it right, don't push in the grill while fitting it as you will not be able to take it back out without breaking the tabs.

once you think the fitment is right, use double sided tape on the inside of the lower part of the bumper grill and snap it all in (crossing your fingers at the same time since there's no turning back at this point)

If you weren't generous enough in cutting up your new grill, chances are it won't fit right and it will stick out a lot and look like dog doo doo.
Too much cutting and it'll look like cow doo doo.

If you're not really hands on or have no artistic ability in you, forget about this mod. and buy the whole Aero bumper, the bumper replacement can be done in 15 minutes while this mod. will take you a good 3-5 hours to get it looking right.

I agree with robino re: not need ing to remove the bumper.... I did mine yesterday and didn't take it off. As long as you don't care about saving the lower chrome piece, then there's no need to remove the bumper. Just cut a hole in the chrome somewhere so you can get a finger (or vice grips or something) under the chrome piece and just rip it right off. You'll have to twist and turn it a bit, but it'll come off with no problems. The body colored piece right above it is just held on with double-sided tape, so that's no big deal....

It's not a heck of a lot of money.... The two black aero grill pieces are something like $80 through your MINI dealer.

I love the aero grill with the stock front end.. And then aero side skirts if you're really feeling frivolous.

I'll be doing the grill mod come warmer weather.

Personally I didn't as I think dark silver looks terrible with painted arches - the black bits really offset it.

I'm actually thinking of painting my arches, but in black - the paint used on the bumper/skirt is textured, but still isn't exactly the same as the black raw plastic arches. Thinking of painting the arches with the same paint to make it "match".
