Interior/Exterior Carbon Fiber Hood
Carbon Fiber Hood
I have seen a few aftermarket Carbon Fiber Hoods for the Mini Cooper and the "S". Does anyone have one on their Mini? I dont think it would go well with my British Racing Green Color...maybe with a Jet Black Mini. Any Suggestions?
i'm also considering one custom-made for my MC, having a brand new one imported to the philippines will be a b*tch to my wallet, so i'd rather have a reputable shop make one for me
i have a PS/B MC...i think it shouldn't look all too bad.

IMO a bare CF hood on anything besides a black car looks very tacky, and in most areas is just begging to be stolen. I had a CF hood on another car I owned (dark green) and I painted it so it wouldn't look so "ricey". CF is used in racecars all the time, but 99% of the time it is painted.

It's a CF/Kevlar orange weave.
It's got over 500hp, with all custom work done to it...simply amazing!
And not to hijack the thread....but here are more pictures for you viewing pleasure.
Note* The rims with the larger dish are the NEW rims he has on there...same design as the old rims, just a larger lip.

And that red Focus has a widebody kit on it...

I saw one....
Adam that used to work at Patrick Mini in Chicago had a CF hood that was painted on his Mini. It was painted with the hood stripes (whatever they're called, the 2 large decal stripes) on.... after the paint dryed, the decals were removed and BAM!... CF stripes on the hood, looked sweet.
You'll have to call for pricing, but VIS Racing makes them.

The thing with Carbon Fiber hoods is to be careful shutting them. I had a friend with a 240 SX with a carbon fiber hood, He told the mechanics who worked on his car to becareful shutting the hood because it was CF. What did they do? Crack it !!!
The reason most people thing the CF hood on a MINI is ugly is because there is no seperation of the hood and fender. When you see another car with a CF hood, you see the fenders and so it doesn't look weird, where as the MINI's hood and "fenders" are one and it just isn't what you are accustomed to seeing. The best bet is to paint it, that is if all you want is the light weightness of it. If you want the carbon fiber look, why not slap a coat of candy paint over it?

my carbon fiber hood is coming next week. i am going to leave it un painted on my DS s. i dont see the point in painting it, because then no one knows it is CF. i'll try to get some pictures of it when installed
Yeah, if you want people to know it's Carbon Fiber, don't paint it. Most people, though get them to lighten the car. But, if you have it painted with a candy paint, you will see the Carbon Fiber through the paint, plus you'll have a color that almost matches the color of the car.
And that is exactly the reason why I would paint it...to NOT get attention to the rice crowd...plus it's an added bonus when you look at the car up close.-Cody
