Interior/Exterior Attn: Gauge install experts - help needed
Attn: Gauge install experts - help needed
Here's my question:
Do you think the gauges in this picture are actually hooked up?

If so do you happen to know which model these are? Because the Autometer 4301 and 4321 gauges I'm installing will never sit flush with the gauge pod.
I've cut the OEM mounting bolts off flush and refinished the exterior of the gauges in flat black because I knew some portion of them would be sticking out. The Alta gauge pod version I've got is only 1.5" wide where the gauges mount and the gauges are 2.5" deep and that's not counting the brass connections on the back. Which bumps it out to 3.25".
If you look at the OEM gauge pods, you can see that the face of the gauges stick out much more off of the tach then depicted in the Alta Ad.

So there is the issue I'm dealing with. On the boost gauge (mounted left side) I've managed to hook everything up and keep the back of the gauge flush with the back of the pod. This leaves me clearance between the connections and my dash.
The oil pressure is another matter all together. Matching the depth of the boost puts the rear of the gauge about .25 inches from the dash and that is without the connector installed! The connector will add another .75" and that is without the hose connected.
You see where I'm going with this, by the time I get this hooked up there won't be enough gauge left to stick in the pod. To compound the problem the dash curves towards the center of the car - reducing the clearance to begin with.
I'm looking for ideas here! I've already looked at swapping the gauges but since they are the same depth, I'd have the same issue. Wondering if "they" sell a 90 degree fitting that will match both the gauge fitting and the smaller 1/8" hose connection?
How have you other guys solved this issue, or did I buy a first gen Alta Pod
TIA and sorry I don't have photos with me, but I can post some up in the morning if it will help.

The Alta Kit (or at least the one OutMotoring sells) uses Autometer gauges - same kind I've got.
The OEM gauges are Stewart Warner gauges.
That's the "Rangeline" brand kit. Got mine through Webb Motorsports. Installed it looks exactly like as shown in the photos. Kit comes with 90o adapters for both gauges. Right side "cup" is cut away to allow full up and down adjustment of the steering wheel.
I think I still have the box the kit came in (at work), I'll check the part number of the gauges for you.

The right side of my gauge is also cut away, so I think you're on to something.
BTW, I have no problem with the gauges sticking out, that's why I finished them. But there is a difference between sticking out and sticking out.
I think the 90's are going to be the answer, I'll stop by a home store on the way to the shop tomorrow. I so wanted this to be a sanitary install, I've wire bundled the lights and minimized their exposure, so adding more brass wasn't what I really wanted to do, but I've got to do something with the pressure gauge.
Thanks Jim

Another Thought.....
The gauges that came in my kit were the Autometer "Ultra-Lite" series. They might be shorter than the ones you have. I also found out the red bulb "filters" (condoms!) match the factory lighting best. I picked up the Autometer LED bulbs and they were too red.
Good Luck!

Since I'm also using the Ultra-Lite I think it'll take more then luck.
Here is a borrowed picture of the 4301 gauge

I was able to swap out the bulbs for some orange side marker bulbs. The ones that came with the gauge were #161 and I used #191 (I think). Amperage and wattage were the same, BTW.
Just to clarify - I didn't buy these as a package. I bought the gauge pod from the Market Place and then bought the gauges from Summit.

You didn't hear? They renamed that WeaverVegas baby!!
I live on the other side of Asheville, in Fairview. Nice part of the State, we've been in the area (WNC) since 96. You sound like you know the area - did you live out here?

FWIW, the Stewart Warner boost gauge is 3.25" long with the brass fitting installed.
I am not at all impressed with these gauges, I screwed up the boost gauge trying to install the brass fitting that is a pipe thread. It was only half way down the male fitting and now I need a new one.
I need to find a Cooper S boost gauge now....with my luck they only sell them with the kit.
ps. WE LOVE North Carolina. I lived in Southern Pines and Raleigh...we hit OBX every summer.
