What Gauges should I get?

Okay this is SO flustrating!impatient I am looking for some gauges. I want a boost gauge. What other gauge is really active though? I would like them with chrome bezels or ones that I could have dipped in chrome... I really don't want to have to spend alot of money on them, probably not more than $100 apiece. The Defi gauges look awesome but I heard they were expensive what are the right gauges for me? I have seen the show off your gauges thread, but it was unconclusive for me because I don't know what sizes to get.

Please help me!impatient

Mikey

I got Defi BF Imperial Gauges

Oil Pressure and Boost.

I am the MCS on the top of this link

http://www.defi-shop.com/user/user_top.html

I am happy with my choice but don't understand the benefit of seeing the boost value.... the PSI changes under load, and when warmed up, but the boost is all over the place very quickly.

I had to spend about $680 and installed the gauges myself. $530 for the defi II control unit, and two gauges. The balance of $150 was for the alta gauge pod. The gauges look great with the interior orange/red lights at night. When the BF gauges are off, if you really look you will see the mechanical needle. They are NOT totally electronic, fyi...

Good luck with your choice....

I do did not want to spend a lot of mony on gauges, but then again it is only something you get once, unless you change your mind all the time. Right now I have the DEFI METER BF boost guage with the Control Unit II. These are the amber models and like MadHatter has stated they match well with the interior lighting.

I am getting my 2 3/8 boost gauge thursday, autometer, $70, goes up to 20 psi. Also need to buy the angle rings if you install it in the dash... I am installing it to the right of the speedo! Should be tons of funimpatientimpatient! (not). I will post pics and let you all know how it goes on Sunday/Monday.

Seriously, Autometer gauges are pretty good, and not too expensive.

Oil temperature is more useful to know than oil pressure, because the former tells you when the engine is up to temperature, before which point you should not be driving it hard.

Chronically low oil pressure is a sign of a worn out engine, but you'd already be aware of that. Sudden loss of oil pressure is of course important to know, but what do you figure our chances are of happening to look at the gauge at the critical moment? That's what the idiot light is for.

That said, I have both gauges on both my cars!

Just received my 2-1/16" Autometer Ultra-Lites from egauges.com:
#4301 Boost / Vacuum $45
#4347 Oil Temperature $46
#4327 Oil Pressure $54
#4337 Water Temperature $40
These gauges closely match the Stewart Warner gauge package sold by the dealer, which I now have installed. I'll be replacing the boost gauge (15 psi) and voltage with boost (20 psi) and oil temp. Then will be looking for a nice way to mount the other 2 gauges on top. I hate to give up the "CooperS" logo, but the gauges are not useful and SW doesn't make any others with the logo.

Autometer gauges are trash. I have yet to use an autometer gauge that was accurate. My boost gauge, for example, reads 30psi while my boost controller and my TMAP are reading 27psi.
