Schooner, how are they prepping the peices to be painted? Sanding and an etch primer first or are they bead blasting them down to the raw plastic first? Just curious.

PS- LOVE your flames - they look great on the electric blue with those rims.

You dont really have to do either....you can easily just scuff the chrome with a very fine steel wool and then prime it well. Bead blasting would destroy it....cause its very thin plastic behind their.

If you wanted to remove the chrome first though...there are some sink cleaning chemicals that remove chrome.

What a Pain in the A$$!!!

No wonder no ones provide any detailed instructions...do this at your own risk and don't bother to ask for details Let's just say, I agree...this requires a great deal of patience and problem solving skills (in other words, don't ask me how to do this)...so far so good...no broken parts

No wonder this thing costs an arm/leg! The igniter is inside the sealed lamp...

Well put...you will understand why people are hesitant to give instructions once you try it. It's not exactly an easy task

I know there's challenges ahead...the dissassembly required a lot of prying which distorted some of the black plastic flange which were already soft from the oven...this will have caused the gaps to become larger than desired when remounted to the bonnet...we'll see tomorrow after the RTV has cured as to what is required to get the fit/finish back to spec...

Curious, why did you leave the other parts chrome? Did you have to, or did you just want to?

Either way, it's going to look sick Sid.

You mean the door handle, etc? I think a little chrome on the Mini is natural...just like chrome on an old Jag or Ferrari...

If you meant the dissassemble lamps, that was before the painting...

I was talking about this:

I know that was before painting (on the right side) but what about the left side? Did you paint that chrome also (surrounding the bulbs)?

Alright, wasn't sure. That's why I asked if you had to have them in my first post. Wasn't sure!

And there has to be a way around that....somehow! Chrome = bad. All chrome = bad. Well, except for my M7 OCC.
