3M black tap size needed for beltline black out

Can someone confirm whether the 1/2" or the 3/4" thick 3M blacktape is the correct sized tape for the black out of the beltline on our car?

Thanks!

working on getting answer. My hsuband did mine, I just texted him. Will get back to you...I do recall he still had to cut it with a razor blade anyway.

Don't use electrical tape, you'll regret it once the it gets hot outside...

I heard that it's the same as the 3M tape, which gives you like 150ft for about the same price. I also heard that the outmotoring kit gives you enough for 1 pass, if I screw up, apparently there isn't much in terms of extras.

The Super 33 3M electrical tape I used to black out the beltline is 3/4 inch. Walmart sells it for under 3 bucks(12.5 yards) and that roll will cover about two MINIs. This tape withstood 110 drgree heat this summer without any problems. It's easy to work with and took about 15 minutes to complete the job. Sofar I haven't had to replace any tape(installed it in March) but if so the replacement is easy and reasonable.

Thank you for replying, buzzsaw!

If you don't mind me asking, 3/4" was the right thickness? Did you have to trim it down at all to make the width fit?

I don't know if the belt line width of the 1st and 2nd gens are the same, but I just double checked the width on our R53 and 3/4 inch tape completely covers the beltline (both the black and chrome segments) with no width trimming required.

I got mine from Lyle of
http://www.vinylstyles.com
Just to make sure it would fit and be quality vinyl. Two years and no problems.

While I understand that, it really isn't hard and on my R56 I had enough excess to do one more door. On my R55 I had maybe 18" or so left. It isn't terrible and just take your time.

Electrical tape will leave residue and deteriorate much faster, more so when it comes in contact with heat.

$15 for the correct stuff shouldn't break the bank.
