So I just bought my 2004 Mini and decided to remove the rear wiper for that cleaner look. I used 10Zero's $2 kit rather than the expensive $25 rear wiper delete kits (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...elete-kit.html). And to remove the panel and uninstall the motor I used Desmobots tut (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ven-speed.html).

Here's the result!

 

Not only does this mod look great.

- No more sand/grit resting on the wiper blade.
- No more scratching the glass with the sand/grit resting on the blade.
- Lost 3lbs of mechanicals and parts.

 

That's absolutely right. I still have to polish the window to get rid of that nasty line that's left from the wiper, but that won't be hard with Klasse

The rear wiper delete makes sense for 2 situations:

1.) if your MINI is a dedicated race car

2.) if your MINI is a summer-only, sunny day-only car, (a.k.a.; your second "fun" car).

 

i never used my rear wiper even in the rain. I'm pretty sure its the origonal wiper blade from 05. lol but i cleaned up the boot and it looks great.

In rain or winter it is absolutely necessary. There is enough dust and dirt around here that when it rains the spray picks up all of that junk and deposits it on the back. I keep it on when there is any trace of precipitation or water on the ground.

 

+1 here. As much dirt collects on the rear window first time it rains its almost impossible to see out the rear window.

The wiper delete does look great, but here in MI, that little wiper is a life saver in Winter... and the months following of road salt and dirt flying everywhere.

The "Preshrunk" decal is genius. (b'-')b

 

I might not use my rear wipers all the time, but they definitely get used. If i wanted to lose 3 lbs I would just go on a diet. Which in fact I really need to do anyways.

 

That's what the side mirrors are for. As long as you have those you don't need a clean rear window.

 

If you can see behind you with the side mirrors, then you don't have then set correctly.

That's why you have a rear view mirror.

 

I'm usually traveling faster than everyone else on the road. So i only need my side mirrors when i change lanes.

 

I really like how your Mini looks debadged. Really clean looking.

Hi all. Thought I'd wake this thread up as it seems as though it is being used by many of us to show off our deletes.

First let me start with a rant:

I'd like to add that it's not at all necessary to even have a rear window if you know how to use your side mirrors; look at all the vehicles on the road with no rear window visibility; box trucks, pickups with caps or campers; airport shuttle vans, contractor vans and trucks, many wedge-shaped supercars, not to mention semi tractors.

I drove a VW camper bus (a '71 pop top) from 1986 to 1992 and got very conditioned to operate a vehicle with no effective back window. And no, I've never backed into anything.

I still don't even look over my shoulder when backing up in my Mini. I just use the side mirrors for everything...25 years in New England @ 25k miles a year, no problems.

So, all that said,

I've been wanting to remove my rear wiper pretty much for the sole reason the it weeps copiously after washing the car; it takes a lot of shaking and toweling to get all the water out of it so it doesn't leave dribbles down the back door.

Yesterday, the wiper blade its self started to tear and hang like a ribbon from the arm. I didn't have time to get into it, so I just removed the arm and covered the stub temporarily so it didn't stand out visually too much.

I used a tire valve cap and a piece of shrink-tubing. I'll dig further into it as soon as I have the time. Just thought I'd share this quick and easy half-step.

 

Added suggestion: If you have or contemplate getting an ALTA Intercooler Air Diverter and want to use the water injector, then its a relatively simple matter to use a T-Tap at the passenger side cowl to supply the water that would normally go to the rear wiper. If you keep your rear wiper motor, a simple off-on toggle switch at the rear will disable it so that, when you crank the stalk to spray water, you'll get water at the intercooler but your rear wiper won't cycle. In hot weather, especially on-track, keeping your intercooler cool means more hp!
