Shelf Question

So until a few weeks ago I had always thought the area under my steering wheel was the basic MCS setup. Even though my car was purchased in Germany, it didn't have the "euro parcel shelf" but instead has a useful cubby hole on the left hand side to store things in. At a MINI meet a few weeks ago one of the other MINI owners saw my car and asked me where I got the shelf....I told him it came that way and then looked at the other MINIs and realized none of them had that setup.

So, what's this called? It's not the Euro Parcel Shelf....is it the base Euro shelf? Anyone know? I'm just curious..........if it helps, my car also have the Euro safety triangles in the back, the safety vest, and the first aid kit :-)

I have seen customizations that resemble your description, but I've never seen an OEM part like that. Can you post a picture.

Here's a pic....I can't think this was really custom, the guy who had it before me bought it new and only put 6000 miles on it before he had it transported back to NC when he returned stateside.

I would designate that a custom job. To the craftsman's credit, it is an exceedingly well-done version of what I would regularly call a mediocre-at-best mod. It looks OEM and definitely will set your Cooper apart.

Base EURO (LHD & RHD) cars got an open shelf, part 01 here :-

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=51&fg=30

Higher spec EURO cars got what Liquid has, part 13 here :-

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=51&fg=30

ALL NAS cars get part 15 here :-

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=51&fg=30

due to unbelted knee impact legislation.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Chris
