Oh the downfalls of being lowered..... help w/ side skirt

I've got the cooper S side skirts... and parked in a terrible spot today... it has a curb, then about 5 feet w/out a curb, then a little island curb next to the car- coming out and cutting right, didnt notice the island curb, and hence ripped off my front mud flap, ripped off the jack point and scratched up the side skirt!

i'm most worried about the side skirt... the scratches are on the bottom half of the skirt, but they are deep enough to be felt by the finger nail and scratched off little peels of plastic...

any good way of smoothing these out? I don't want to take sand paper to it because it will most likely mess up the texture and finish of the outside...

tips/ideas??

Replace it. It's not expensive.

Don't know of a better alternative. As you said, you can't repair it due to the texture. It would look as bad or maybe worse if you tried to smooth out the damaged area.

Look for someone on NAM who has purchased the aero kit and has the side skirts as extra's now. They may be willing to part with them for less money.

Body Shop ?

Would it be that much to just have a body shop fill the scratch and re-spray it ?

Same problem as if you tried to sand it down. Whatever you use to fill it in won't have the same textured finish and it would stand out like a sore thumb.

Wait, do you have the Aerokit?! Or are they the regular S side skirts? The regular skirts are dirt cheap...I might even have a couple laying around you could have if you pay shipping...

I might have thrown them away...that price seems way too high. I could've sworn I checked with the dealer to see what they were worth and they were only 50 or so each side.

I'll check my attic tomorrow since i'm going to bed now. Where in MA are you? I go to CT through MA at least twice a month so we could even meet somewhere too...we can figure something out but i'll check to see if I still have the side skirts somewhere...

You probably looked up the factory aero skirt. RealOEM says the standard R56 right skirt is 51777147916 and Pelican Parts says it is $89 (you can probably get it cheaper from Classic MINI). The aero skirt is listed as 51777199876 and Pelican Parts says it is $273.

That said, your cheapest option is to get a used one from someone who installed the JCW aero kit. Hope it works out with ColinMc.

NAM Market Place

I believe some people are posting the Side Skirts, Front Bumper, Rear Bumper for around $150.00 at this moment.

Thanks guys, i guess i looked up the aero... in my heart i want to replace it with the jcw aero kit =p
i've already got the front, so need the side skirts to complete it (i like the mcs rear, not a fan of the jcw...)

but, 89 isn't too bad if worse comes to worse.

though, if i can get it from colinmc, i need to spend my 55$ on the jcw front trim, as i messed that up the next day...... worst luck ever. havent done anything in 8 months, then 2 days in a row two different curbs...

bright daylight too. details on the second day here...
http://forums.quattroworld.com/trist...gs/15375.phtml

damage... here:
http://forums.quattroworld.com/trist...gs/15366.phtml

and here:
http://forums.quattroworld.com/trist...gs/15391.phtml

now im less worrying about the side skirt, as the damage is hidden on the btm half of the skirt, whereas you can blatently see the damage on the front diffuser-- i blackwow'd it too... and looks muchhhhhh less obvious now.

blah

That sucks man, but I saw a few people selling their bumpers & side skirts in the marketplace. PM one of them and ask if they would sell the skirts seperatley! Its not like anyone is going to buy stock R56 bumpers AND skirts anyway.
