not sure what its called and if I really need it, but that "ground scraper" under the front bumper, what is it for? Does it keep derbis from going up into the engine? Can I remove it w/out harming anything? I think it car would look a lot better if it was removed, but not if some errant rock will get sucked up and break something...?

If you're talking about the vertical piece, (I'm too lazy to go out and look) most cars have a deflector that pushes air up into the lower grille.

I know that on a mustang, if you remove it, the engine will run 15-20 degrees hotter.

Best I can guess without checking it out.

it's an air-dam. It helps prevent airflow from going under the car, and also helps with down force.

I'm gonna tell you what my father used to tell me. If the factory thought they could save a buck per car, they would..... considering they produce millions of cars. (and though it's plastic, between parts labor, I assure you it costs more than a buck to produce and install that piece of plastic.

If it's on there, it's on there for a reason.

Well put. I feel the same way. If it helps the car and there is no better replacement that improves its purpose, leave it be.

I agree fully with you to !!! BTW you forgot the price to develop that plastic thing . If you really must change it replace it with something better don't just delete it!!!
