Interior/Exterior euro plate tickets in LA?
Hey there,
Anyone got a ticket yet for a front Euro plate in Los Angeles? I'd really like to get one for the front of my MCS but am wondering if they're strict about the front and back plate rule, and if so, what's the penalty?
Thanks,
Craig

I'm in so cal and have a euro plate on my mini too, I've got a warning from the cops once but they didnt really care. Just say you had it on for a car show and forgot to take it off. Thats what I tell them. If you do get a ticket its only a $10 fix it ticket.
On the way back from Las Vegas I was pulled over in Barstow in '91 with a euro front plate. I just had to put the CA plate on and take the car to a CHP office to get the ticket cleared. The speeding ticket, on the other hand...
not sure about other areas, but the parking meter maids (cockroaches) in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills are really strict and specifically give tickets for no front plate. I guess whenever you park on a public street they can ticket you. I think cops can also pull you over for it now.
The primary reason is because the front plate is what identifies your car in the Red Light Photo Enforced Camera intersections. Without the plate you can run these lights and not get the $270 ticket.
If you do get caught, its a big pain because you have to make an appointment (or wait) at the DMV to have them sign off the ticket, not to mention the $40 fine.
Beleive me if I felt I could get away without one, I would definately not ruin the front of my MINI with a plate. Oh, well......
Guess you could always take the chance.

Here in Washington it's an $86.00 ticket (Ouch!
) and it counts as a moving violation. However I talked to a state trooper about it, and he said that he wouldn't get any hart burn over it. He has bigger violators to take care of. City or county cops are another story.
Also, I lived in Lousianna before, where front plate isn't required, and plates on the front are ignored and are okay.
