Interior/Exterior Sunroof Tinting in LA Area?
don't know if it's only me, i've heard that you shouldn't tint your sunroof?
but then again, i searched the forums (quickly) to see if this was true and couldn't find it.
but yeah. how much do tints cost usually? (for anywhere...)

joshK, I met Hamid yesterday and he's going to tint my ride next week. He was great! Thank you!!

If you dont mind me asking how much is he charging? I live in the Northridge area and thinking about getting tinting done and going around to different places. I found a car wash that does it and he is going to charge me $125 and uses 3M products.
My sunroof alone is going to be about $100, I'm going with Madico ceramic, it is clear and heat resistant... don't remember the price of the windows.

what kind of product do they use? The guy I was maybe going to go to uses 3M. Also I have read that the law in California for tinting is 75% on the front windows and anything on the back. Does anyone know what it really is?
they use 3M. california law is NO TINT AT ALL on front 2 windows any tint on the back 3. but, they will tint your fronts as dark as you wish, you just take the chance. i had my front 2 done at 35% and my back 3 at 15% looks good and no issues so far with the police.
In addition to 3M they also use Madico. Here's their website...

whoops yes they use madica too. forgot about that. Hamid will also reiterate my comment on california tint laws. but, he will do it as dark as you want it. i think if you get pulled over you get a "fix it" ticket. actually my tint is 35% front and 20% rear- just looked at my receipt. the darker tint in the back helps the front to look a little darker.
this combo is actually what hamid recommended i use on my indi blue and he was right, it looks really nice.
i think as far a the police go, just use decent judgement and you'll be ok. if you're not driving around like a lunatic, calling attention to yourself they have better things to do here in L.A. IMHO. or you could always roll down the windows when you see a police car
.
i pass quite a few squad cars on a daily basis with no issues and i see many more cars on the streets with their fronts tinted much darker than mine. my wife has darker tint on her PT cruiser fronts and she's never had an issue either.
but, beware they CAN pull you over for it if they're in the mood.

Yeah cause I was driving with my dad last night and I saw a ton of cars with tint on the front windows.
At the restaurant I work at we always have cops come in so I am going to talk to them about it.
I was just thinking of doing the back windows so people cant see what I have in there which isnt very much. I just think it will look funny but I dont want to get pulled over and have a fix it ticket and have it taken off.

Dory don't worry too much about the local cops. I live in Northridge (Actually North Hills) and have never had a problem with the tinting. The highway patrol will give tickets for this, I have been with a friend when he got one. It is also pretty cheap too have it removed, just a pain in the backside.
I know this is a little off subject but, watch out driving down Nordhoff it has been littered with cops sitting in residential driveways with radar guns.

oh i totally know where you are talking about and I always slow down especially cause there is a hill there. But back to the topic today when I was working some cops came in so I asked and they said they would just pull me over....jokingly. But they didnt come right out and say it but if a cop wanted to be a jerk they could pull you over. They also said you can get it tinted but not to dark.
I have had all my cars tinted at Distintive on Ventura Blvd. They are near The Auto Gallery and are right across the street from the VW dealership. I am not sure what film they use, but I have been very happy with them over the past 10 years. Our 08 MCS will be tinted there when we take delivery in a month.

Well I just got back from having my windows tinted at Sunshield and it looks awesome! Hamid recommended 35% all around and 20% on the rear, just like whiteyanderson.
The clear ceramic tint on the sunroof is so clear I couldn't tell they put it on until I put my finger of the very edge and could feel it.
Very nice. Thank you joshK!

Any chance of some pics? before and after?
That looks great
Certainly appears dark enough from the outside, but still clear enough that I can see a) the edge of your curved wall through the passenger window and b) the street, through the driver window, over the headrest and through the rear window.
How much were you charged and how long did it take?

$240 but remember that the sunroof alone was about $100 because I went with the more expensive clear ceramic. It was done in less than 1 hour. They work very quickly because they put a team of guys on one car, each guy takes a window. You can watch them work from the waiting area.
