Wind deflectors

one thing that helped tremendously with wind and noise when I owned my VW NB was a set of wind deflectors on the driver and passenger DOORS. I found them easily for the Beetle, but can't seem to find any for the MCS.

anyone know who makes or sells them?

They are made and sold by MINI. OEM. They are pretty pricey but worth it. Sometimes certain dealers will have specials through the year. Sometimes you will see them for sale here on NAM or on ebay.

Here's an aftermarket version by NAM member brownflyer that has some advantages over the OEM version: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=99742

The OEM wind deflector retails at $425 but can be found online at $300.

not talking about convertibles

Ok - so clarification - I don't have a convertible and I'm not talking about a wind deflector that fits between the driver and passenger seats to limit wind noise when a convertible top is down.

I'm talking about the window wind deflectors that are placed along the window molding of the front doors to decrease wind into the cabin and noise when the front windows are down. they're usually tinted and curved. they also help prevent rain from seeping into the cabin with the windows are slightly open (something that commonly happens with the MCS).

Most people call them rain guards. The most popular company is Vent Visor. I Googled them and came up with nothing for the MINI. Good luck

Also, if you want some air when it is raining, pop the sunroof open. I have been in hard rain moving and standing and very little water comes in while standing and none while moving.

yeah - i've googled/yahooed, etc and am surprised i can't find anything. the doors/windows are huge and since the rear windows don't open or roll down to help funnel air thru the cabin, there's a tremendous amount of wind noise with the MINI. i contacted TVAAuto in brea - the sell a bunch of random aftermkt stuff for VW and Mini - that's where i got the wind deflectors/rain guards for the NB. if they have a hook up, i'll post something here for everyone else. they were a tremendous help in VW and actually looked really cool!

I wouldn't think there would be a way to do this on the MINI, based on the way the windows seal up.........if you find something post it up, but I'm thinking you won't........

you're not gonna find it, there's no frame around the window to attach the deflector to. no other way to attach it otherwise the window will hit it upon opening or closing of the door.

ah - yes, an oversight on my behalf - the windows on the VW were enclosed with in the door. i guess if there was a way for these to be made they'd have to attach into the A pillar and then have to flange out in such a manner that they don't hit the window when opening/closing the door. hmmmmmmmmmm. sux!

i actually used to think they were the cheesiest additions to a car, then i started seeing them on hooked up dubs and the sort and i began to take a liking to them :P

mach schnell, im sure you could experiment with putting something on the window... but that might come out a tad ghetto

These tend to be more for Pickup Trucks and other assorted cars. I have never really seen these for any cars that I call cool.

Maybe MacNeil automotive. They make them for quite a few cars and tend to be of higher quality.

yeah - they're one of the first places online I checked. I'm realizing the fact that MINI windows are not enclosed within the door frames is going to make this mission near impossible. like glnr13 wrote, I'll probably have to attempt making something myself and hoping it doesn't look ghetto. Just not sure I can make something fit into the A pillar but not hit the window when the door opens or closes. However, I wonder about some kind of flare that would affix to the A pillar itself and act as a wind deflector -----hmmmmmm

interesting point drewster - it's hard to tell from that picture - but where did they attach the rain guard?
