Interior/Exterior Built in garage door remote
#1
I finally got tired today of reaching in the glove box to use the garage door remote. That was the only place I found to store it because it clashed with the interior. The sunvisor was too thick plus I didn't want to have permanent marks on the visor from the remote clip. I looked at the inside of the remote and it's nothing more than a very small board with a switch then the 9 volt battery.
I purchased a normally open momentary switch and wired this onto the existing switch. I could have removed the current switch but this way made it more temporary. We've been house shopping. Here is a shot of the board, battery and switch I used.

I like it! I saw a garage door remote mod on a site that taps into the high-beam circuit. You just flash your high-beams and your garage door opens.

How difficult will it be to change the battery in the remote?

Knowing that I would need to take it back out I went ahead and used a new battery. The way I have it now it should take less than 3 minutes to change the battery. That includes the new tape for cover. I'm sure I have only used four batteries in the last ten years so it shouldn't be a problem.

Very nicely done! It'd also be super cool to add the missing toggle switch to the instrument panel and have that work the garage door opener, but that's a lot more work and $$$ to execute. Very cool! I think this will be my next mod. Thanks for the detailed info and pictures, SB.

I just put mine under the center pod. If you reach up under the center pod under the dash you'll feel a cover. Just push up a little and it comes unsnapped. You can then use this ledge to put clip on your remote (it fits in backwards so the clip goes forward with the remote unside down). Total installation time: less than a minute.

i would really like to wire it into the toggle switches. that would be so great. I want to try it but worried i mess something up. it would fill the empty swich holes so it would look complete. i would need a new chrome toggle swich (from mini im sure) and to drill out the hole. i could then wire the toggle swich to the opener and mount the opener near there and then thats it. i will look into it more soon see what it looks like under there and if it would be possible.
