You can prevent the "waves" in the rubber strip by affixing the rubber to the front lip with 3M tape first, then using 1" flat washers for each attachment point about 8 inches apart. I also used pop rivets instead of screws. Seemed to work great for this application.

i was so excited to do this mod when this thread first started back in March 2008 - so I ran out to Lowe's bought the parts, came home, measured, cut, taped and then, much to my dismay, realized that the AC Schnitzer front bumper didn't match well with this mod - no matter how I tried to align the rubber (I even tried doing it in three pieces - 2 small ones to make up the left and right splitter and then a center piece.) it just didn't look good

talk about deflated ego - you get all excited for these little home made diy mods and then one doesn't turn out

Not trying to boast or brag personally, but the lip has driven about 10,000 miles now, hit 135 mph, driven from Portland, Oregon to Alabama, Mississippi, and a couple times to and from New Orleans FROM Mississippi, and has taken all the elements: ice, rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, exhaust, dust, carwashes, etc. It's doing GREAT!

Personally, I wouldn't worry as much about using the tape as much as drilling a few holes in the bumper. The tape shows (because I put it too far forward) if I lay on my stomach or bend over to wash the car...

Put up your photos when you do it!

Tom

P.S. this photo was yesterday...

Mine was on for almost a year and it was still fine - I drove it into curbs and parking lot barricades on a few occasions and it always snapped right back. I bet the mirrors would rip off at extremely high speed before the rubber strip would, if you install it properly.

But...

I got a GREAT deal on a CF splitter fro a guy that didn't need it any more so... (shrug).

The rubber strip was still the best <$15 MOD I ever installed though...

See #191 for this... It was just as good after a year as when I installed it. I did hit it with vinyl/rubber protectant every time I did my trim though (once every 4-6 weeks in the winter, once a week in the summer) so that might have kept it noce and black and supple.

As for the driving lights - they're the Hella Optilux with "angel eyes".

I spent $20 just on tape and $15 on the seal and hours going to the stores and trying to get this to work Anyway, might try and strip whatever is keeping it from sticking and try again
