How To DIY: Home Depot front lip
#202
I tried this mod and couldn't get anything to stick to my bumper And for the guy's that said they did this in 45 minutes and spent $12. yea right. I spent $20 just on tape and $15 on the seal and hours going to the stores and trying to get this to work Anyway, might try and strip whatever is keeping it from sticking and try again
^^^actually my seal was $8, tape $4, rivets were $3...total $15
Aligned and stuck, cut, jacked up car, drilled, rivet...1 hour
Yes it can be done, just gotta get the rubber slick off the vinyl, prepare for the worst, and know where to find the best prices
Don't question our superiority jk

Ok, I went to Lowes for the seal, tried 2 different kinds of tape, 3-M and some trim tape, stuff is not cheap. What kind of tape did you use? Also you didn't use fender washers on your rivets? I tried rivets, they pulled thru. Will go with a wood type screw that will grab if I attempt again.

They really work awesome. They are long enough to get past the seal and bumper, hold really tight, and have a good sized washer built in. They come in packs of 2 and I used 6 total to minimize the wavy look at pressure points.
I had gotten a small thing of heavy duty, outdoor 3M tape just to hold the seal up while installing rivets and to give some support to the gaps. I wouldn't trust it alone though because I was running into the same problem you seem to have where its just not sticking properly to the surfaces. I don't know how the others have been able to go only 3M, for me the rivets were a must.

I think I have to redo mine. The tape isn't sticking very good. Did I miss something? I got 3M double sided tape as pictured in first post, cleaned the underside of bumper good, stuck it and the lip on and bolted it. Now it seems to be sagging in between the bolts? Is there better tape our there, or did I just mess something up?

PICS??
I have it front and rear and have had mine on for a few months and did not use screws or fasteners at all.
I used a hot glue gun and "tacked" it from the back and at the ends after I used contact cement on the bottom of the bumper (I let it get tacky) and stuck the strip on.

As for what you spent, I didn't spend that much - I have no idea why your parts were so expensive. I paid less than $14 for everything. My garage door stripping was $7, and the rest went to self-tappers, 1" fender washers (stainless) and a small roll of 2-sided tape.
