[Hawaii] New tires 8 weeks before trade-in???

ok, folks...I've got now 8-12 weeks before I trade my MINI in. (I waited too long and the car they had on the lot sold before I came back to close the deal!!!!) I took my MINI in for servicing last week, and they highly recommended replacing all 4 tires. I told them, "no thanks," cause I was planning on trading it in the next day. But now I'm looking at 8-12 weeks wait.

What do you folks think? I don't want to invest in new tires just 8 weeks before I trade it in. Blown-Lone-Star said...just rotate...but the fronts are pretty worn.

any thoughts???? anyone got tires they're willing to loan me for 8-12 weeks...i'll slap on the old ones at time of trade in.

Let me know!!!! THANKS!!!!

I would just rotate them... no use changing them so soon before a trade-in..unless you are going to get something for it... however, if it is going to a private buyer, would change them....

if they are bald, be careful in the rain....

don't put worn tires in back

--Keiki if the front tires are really worn, don't buy new ones and put them in the front without replacing the back tires too. Worn tires in the back are more likely to get you killed in any weather than worn tires in the front. There was a discussion on this forum about a guy who ran his car into a mountain side and totalled his Mini going only 40mph. Turned out he had his stock run flats on the back (only a little worn) and brand new performance regular tires on the front. Uneven grip between the front and rear tires on a seemingly harmless turn slid his rear out of control and put him into the wall. In the rain this is more likely happen in an even more violent reaction.

If you go to any tire installer on the island they will install your brand new tires on the rear and or advise you to do so. Some places like Costco will NOT install new tires on the front if you have old tires in the back. They will install them on the back and rotate your old ones to the front.

What size tires do you need? I might be able to find something from my other car club friends.

seee......blown-lone-star, he done tryin' to get me killed, uh huh!!!!! yah, see, he jus jealous, cause i done beat his butt in tennis the otha' day. yah, you know how it is!

alright, alright....anyways! Yah, i figured there was some sort of theory behind where the "good" tires should be. if I feel up to it, i might take some pics and post them here so you folks can se how "bad" it really is. maybe it's not that bad and the dealership just wanted to make money off of me? nah....that never happens!

If they are truly worn/bald, won't that lower your trade-in value? Something to keep in mind.

if you really are in dire need of a loaner set of wheels and tires...i've got my old white 16x7.5 asa lw5 with es100s sitting around. 205/50.

if you do end up getting new tires...would it be cheaper to replace two runflats and rotate'em or buy some cheaper non-runflats for all 4? like maybe es100s? the ones i bought from tirerack were ~$80 ea. i'm sure that tires direct place in salt lake would have'em.

Yes, still on for sunday 8 to 12 noon at Ala Moana Park near the "tennis courts".

Casey will be in Las Vegas so no need for pop corn except if you bring a movie.

Hope to see you there.
