Spring "Tax Break" Driving Tour

For BMW CCA members-

Sunday April 10, 2005 930am at the BMW/MINI dealership.
The group leaves promptly at 10am.

Bring your family radio or be one of the first 12 to arrive to get free use of a club owned FRS radio to listen to the chatter during the drive around the island through Diamond Head, Sandy beach, the windward coast, Laie, northshore (shaved ice!) and back through H2 to town.

Bring a picnic lunch/drinks or swim at Kuuloa Park during the midday break.
Families welcome, don't forget your sunscreen and cameras.

Cars will roll rain or shine.

We have more than 12 radios, but if you have your own, feel free to bring it. We will not be using the GMRS channels or sub channels. The club radios are set to Channel 22 so lets just roll with that. Thanks for reminding me, I have to check the batteries!

John,

Are your radios GMRS? Please let me know as I will need to reprogram the radios to FRS channels if you don't have GMRS.

They are set to channel 22. No sub codes as I have 2 types of FRS/GMRS radios and one of them has no sub code function.

Many thanks for a fun day.

Mahalo to BMW CCA Hawaii chapter for a very nice drive around the "rock".
and many thanks to John, Brian, and Dale (nice commentary).

Pretty good turnout about 20 + 1 (a silver M3 joined us to play).

Two MINIs
JCW04 and me

Weather was great but there was not enough time for Dale to swim so he excused himself after the Giovanni's "spicy" shrimp adventure and went for a dip on the north shore.

Meanwhile we all got "cold" eating Matsumoto's shaved ice.
Only "wimps" use those plastic no drip holders.
OK, maybe they just want to be neat and not spill sticky stuff all over their clothes like the rest of us. Ever notice how sticky the bottom of your slippers gets from walking around over there?

Then as we leave I get a call from Kohu'UlaMINI who is eating next door at Aoki's with his family so we wave as we pull out and head for home. I guess the "mile long" line at Matsumoto's scared him off. Hey it moves pretty quick. Sorta.

Is that what Dale did? That guy loves to swim!

It was a great time, too bad there weren't more MINIs.

Brad, you forgot about the EB/EB MCS with rims that came buzzing by Kualoa Park.

Aloha folks-

I had a great time! Saw some excellent examples of Bavarian craftsmanship and got to meet some real nice folks.

One of these days when the great Las Vegas god smiles on me I'd love to add a Z-series to my stable!

Also, the twisties at Olomana and Old Kalanianaole were a nice departure from the usual boring asphalt. I haven't run through there in years!

Thanks again for a great day of quality cruising! Wish I could have stayed the whole route!

Aloha!

the fun day and new friends

Let me just start by saying thank you Brad for sharing your knowledge and your mini. The day of driving around sunny oahu was fantastic. I finally met John and saw his mini. Yes, John im still getting the white s-lites when i order this week. The fun time I had just confirms that when my mini comes in I will be at as many events as possible. Thanks guys.
