They are actually rated at 50 Kumho v700. They are made for the track not every day driving

Interesting that the email says they are putting on the final finishing touches in OXford.
Good morning Coopking!

Did you get the same call as others are stating about the GP being delayed in delivery?

I had a call today, April 5th is the national delivery date. The local rep said that they are in port awaiting the numbering graphics....

Those better be some pretty special graphics....

BAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLSSSSSSSSS....

I was so hoping they would rethink this.... The call today is not a good sign...

An extra MONTH!?

I think there's more to the delay than the numbers... I think they may want to delay it a bit until everyone has nicer weather (East Coast esp).

The worst of it is, I understand there's no steering wheel controls on these cars... I was so looking forward to those.

and when I bought the first generation one all the Colorado allotment was gone so I bought mine in St Louis... (2 cars per state for the gen 1 GP's as I recall).

It was a great break in drive home!

MINI USA now has a great excuse for being late, and it's all the customers' fault. It's a win-win!

I read the Mini GP will come with either 215/40tire or the less aggressive 205/45 tires. Any comfirmation on this? Mitch

I have read/heard that the customer may request the 205/45 tire option (at a slight surcharge). If not otherwise requested, the GPs will come with the 215/40 tires, which were specifically designed for the GP. I still am in denial that after waiting for this long and expecting the cars to arrive this week, it will be another month!

Just got a call from my MA. My MINI is on the Chesapeake Highway. Marinetraffic.com says it left Southampton 2013-03-02 23:27 local time. Finally some progress.

Was talking to him about the GPs and Austin MINI has a couple left that are available if anyone is looking.

Hey,

Do you have a source for this? I only ask because I too was under the impression they would have steering wheel controls, but the car they brought around to dealerships (recently) did NOT have them, and when the salesperson I spoke to asked the corporate rep that went around with the car, she was told the car would not have them.

Would love it if you were correct!

I was told that it was part of the 7KH GP package, the US would have the bluetooth telephone and Satellite radio package I was told that the radio controls were going to be on the Steering wheels??? Maybe that is why they are getting held back hahaha

There will be bluetooth and satellite radio (heated seats too), however I was told it would be controlled through the main console and that there would not be steering wheel controls...

I REALLY like the steering wheel controls - I wish they were included.

Seriously, thats a problem? Buy a different car then or put some crappy tires on. Its a performance car and they have extreme performance tires on it. How do you think the car is so much faster around the Ring than the First GP? The tires make a huge difference.

Thats amazing that people are complaining about an Extreme performance tire on a GP. This is why the MINI has been toned down so much from its original design.

just got this via email today

Greetings GP MINI-acs,

You may be asking yourself, when is the GP racing into my dealership?! Well, it’s time to fill you in on the latest news.

Our original plan was to deliver the GP in March; however, as you know, now each US MINI John Cooper Works GP comes with a roof decal with a unique number that will range from 0001 to 0500. Unfortunately, there is a production delay on the number decals.

Because we are the ONLY market in the world (besides our Canadian neighbors) with this exclusive numbering system, our delivery date for the GP is now expected to be on or around April 5th. We wish we could deliver the GPs now but this is all part of our effort to “Save the Numbers.”

We know it’s not easy or particularly fun to wait and are eager to get behind the wheel for the first time ourselves. So thanks for your continued patience as your GP is adorned with its final touch and begins its journey across the Atlantic. As always, if we can answer any questions, please call 1-866-ASK-MINI (275-6464).

Until then, Motor On.

The Team at MINIUSA
