Updated pics of the garage (II)

I finally had my painter come by to paint the garage. Let me know what you think. Note that the I had the light fixtures painted as well as the exposed plumbing, the door, garage door tracks, garage door motors and AC compressor hose. The first pic is the before pic and if you wanna see more, look at the first post here

That is BEAUTIFUL! The paint work is really great. Everything is in it's place. It's like OCD heaven. The MINIs not bad either.

Overall, I like it. I really like the garage door tracks and the light fixtures painted red. Not so crazy about the electrical conduit and the plumbing lines painted red though... those are the things I prefer to fade into the background, not stand out so much.

But as I said, overall, I really like what you've done with the space. Can't wait to do some checkered floor tiles myself.

Looks nice.

I've been curious what the real world experience is with those tiles. These are squares that basically interlock right?
  • What happens when you spill something - like oil - and it goes into the cracks? How hard is it to clean?
  • What about when you want to clean the surface - winters make a mess of my floor - do you hose it off? Does the water run underneath to the drain?
  • The red edge you have - is that painted or do they sell that?
  • Is it strong enough for a motorcycle kickstand?
  • Does is scratch easily? I have some yard tractor attachments that I sometimes need to drag around - at least until I put up a shed outside - because they are too heavy to lift.

I could go on, but I think you get my point. I'm wondering if these are functional or if they just look good.

Well, I would say they're functional to a point. You really can't hose down the garage since water WILL get in between the cracks of the tiles. If you drop some water, it won't be the end of the world, but you won't want too much water down there since there won't be much ventilation for it to dry out very quickly. I simply clean with a damp mop/towel and that works just fine.

As for the scratching: A motorcycle kickstand won't be a problem. And I drag my floor-jack and the carts around without incident, but I think if you drag some of the stuff you mentioned you might scratch it a bit.

The red trim I bought from Griot's as well. They have that trim in every color that the tile is offered in.

Hope that answers all your questions.

Yeah, I love it, but you do understand that by posting pictures of your beautiful house, your amazing garage, and your 2 brand new 2 seater sports cars that you are opening yourself up to our questions... so...

What do you do for work?
Are you married/have any kids?
Where do you live, keep your spare keys, and whats the code to your alarm?

Could you please compare the GP vs. the Z4 Mcoupe regarding performance, driving dynamics and daily driving characteristics?

I used to own a 2001 Z3 M Coupe, and indeed it was a special car.

Thanks,
Jim

LOL......no problem.
I work for a mortgage lender. I'm not married anymore (and don't have any kids yet), but I have a girlfriend who loves cars just as much as I do. We both drove Audi's before (S4's) and we still love them so we'll prolly have an RS4 in there in the next few months. I'm just 33, so this stuff is obviously all fun for me.
Oh and as far as the house goes....I wouldn't recommend trying to get in since I have a pit bull that has numerous STD's to infect intruders with. Not to mention the state-of-the-art alarm, camera's and guns. Anything else?

LOL.....Well, technically single, but taken. My girlfirend is beautiful and can drive like it's nobody's business....I know because we went carting and she beat most of the guys. And although I was faster all around, her single fastest lap was better than my single fastest lap.
And you're right about the garage for man/women. My GF gets a kick out of it too and actually bought me a lot of the stuff in there. For xmas she gave me the detailing cart, parking stops, griot's garage stool, wall bumpers, yellow wash bucket...oh and the GP mats as well. So I really can't complain.

Oh well, I am married anyway- Glad to hear that you are in good hands with a girl who knows her place in the world...

I don't know if you come to TATE sometimes (or was just for the GP) but if you guys do, we should get together and the 4 of us go for some fun driving.

How do you like the checkered flooring? Is it easy to keep clean? I'm planning an intensive garage renovation and trying to decide between something like this versus an expoxy type flooring finish. Consider that one car in the garage will be a daily driver in a winter climate which includes snow, etc.

Thanks in advance for any comments - your garage looks excellent
