Hands free phone speaker

I have a 2007 Cooper S
The interior upper console appears to have speakers and microphone and the dash has a button with a phone on it. The original owner told me it doesn’t have that feature though. Does anyone know what is needed to add it as if it came with it?
Thanks ahead of time!

My manual says nothing about this icon/ button. Anyone with a later year than 2007 that has this? Seems like I could install factory components. I’m thinking it’s not connected to the on board computer in any way.

Yep from 2007- about 2010 it was an add on kit. 2011+ it was more common and optioned. So MINI added the icon and possible function to all production cars 2007-2010 and 2011_. You could order it and have it added at the dealership. Most people being in the early days of bluetooth did not get it. A. They did not have a bluetooth phone. B. $650+ install was a hard pill to swallow.

Nothing come up on the display if you dont have it. Nothing below.

Some people just use the audio 3.5mm / USB and a bovee adapter>

If they just have 3.5mm ( like most early 2007-2010 MINIs) get a universal 3.5mm bluetooth adapter and then select AUX on the display. Play music from your smart phone or when someone calls you the mic is you phone and the speaker is the car speaker. You will not have function of that button on the dash or steering wheel. Its like MINI set up for a big media upgrade in the 2007-2010 R56-R55-R57 and then no one really got them due to being to far ahead of the curve on the bluetooth game.. when in 2007 most cars did not have bluetooth. I had it in my 2005 MINI Cooper and it had a talking system/full bluetooth with snap in adapter. At the time most 100K+ cars did not have that.
