On my R56S I used to have the suction cup mount close to the left A-pillar. I routed the cable behind the steering column down to the center console for changing and audio connection. The phone was easy to reach with left hand and not blocking the view. One of the things that bothered me with window mount is the device can get overheated quite easily on the sunny day.
Now I have the aftermarket stereo with CarPlay custom fitted into the factory speedo. Much better setup if you ask me.
I can't find the better picture. Here is the one where you can see the mount location (partially blocked by the left hand):
Your profile picture shows a Countryman S? I have a Proclip in my Clubman with a magnet phone mount, and the location is perfect. Out of the way, but still visible when needed. Personally, I don't like the mounts that place the phone in the way of any controls, or in line of sight of the windshield. Its bad enough people can't drive down the road without their phone in hand, let alone block their view of the road with it....
Agreed with the above post - the window mount was a temporary solution. While it was out-of-the-way it still blocked some of the view.
I considered Proclip or double DIN stereo below speedo, but it's way too low in my opinion.
After experimenting with several phone mounting solutions I decided to invest into a CarPlay solution and never looked back.

Do you have your install documented anywhere? Did you start with HK sound system?
