R50/53 Cell PHONE and Your MINI
I have a motorola 720 and just bought the motorola speaker phone for the car it works great plugs right into your light but i have no place to put my phone with the cord coming out the bottom ....I bought a cell phone holder that clips into MOST vents but these are round mini vents and dont fit anyone have any experience with this or find a system that works in there car??????
I just went to a cell phone accessory store and bought a little holder that sticks on with double sided sticky tape. I placed it on the dash just to the right of the steering wheel and to the left of the speedo. You need to add a new battery cover to the phone so it has the little button on it and it slips right into the holder. Works really well and when I want to tak it out I can just pull it off the dash and clean it with some wd-40 to get the glue off the dash. If you want a picture let me know.
ok so here is the the super secret to holding things on a dash board, Sticky Pad's at best buy they are $4.99, they are amazing, no resadue, no stickyness feeling, but belive me they stick like a ****, on ramps at 50+ mph and my friends cell phone and my cell phone did not move at all, well worth it!!! i can't seem to find a link to show you what they look like so i will post a pic tommow

>>>OK here are two photos. I hope I don't bore anyone with the photos I posted in Member Mini's. By the way they are at pages 140 and 141 if you want to blow them up for a better view. The hands free plugs into the cigarette lighter and fits nicely in the hole under the switches. I ran the microphone up to the door sill right over my left shoulder.

didn't y'all read the little sticker on the windshield that said you weren't supposed to operate wireless devices inside the passenger compartment? apparently the mini uses drive by wire to get the message form the gas pedal to the fuel injectors and some wireless devices can interfere with that. how'd you like to be talkin on the phone and just have the mini take off on ya?
of course you know that sticker (which i peeled off and threw in the trash) is probably a cya on behalf of the manufacturer, but some religious people might want to be sure they obey to the letter of the law

Go to any Radio Shack, Best Buy, Bed-Bath-Beyond, whatever and you'll see them. It's a piece of black rubbery stuff that really doesn't photograph well.
Follow this link for a sort of picture from a place that sells 'em.

I'd like to hear more info on this- I work from a home office and the road, and will certainly need to talk on my cell phone in my MINI. So what have people done? Do you ignore the warning (at the peril of your warranty, no doubt) or have you used "an exterior antenna" as requested by MINI? Since the demise of "car phones" I don't even know how to get an antenna for a hand-held cell phone. Please share your experiences!

Start here for one of the more recent threads, and it probably links back to others.
As far as I know, NO ONE has experienced any problems with their MINI that can honestly be traced back to cell phone use. Further, it appears that cell phone use in MINIs is probably at least on par with the general population...i.e., more than 1/2 of us have powered-on phones in our cars with no problems what so ever. 'nuff said.

Ok, used my T-Mobile/Voicestream phone in the MINI this morning, while I wasn't driving, I pulled to the side of the road (I'm not that good with the stick shift yet) the car was still running. I didn't see any issues at all.
Voicestream/T-Mobile uses the GSM (Global System for Mobiles) network which AT&T Wireless and Cellular One are also putting in to place. GSM is also widespread thorughout Europe.

sorry to be redundant and post about the drive by wire versus cell phone issue, but i apologize for being redundant about the drive by wire versus cell phone issue, so i hope you'll forgive me for being redundant about the drive by wire versus cell phone issue, and now that i know i have been redundant about the drive by wire versus cell phone issue i ask you to pardon me for being redundant about the drive by wire versus cell phone issue
seriously, my sales person said to ignore the warning...so i did (and still do). i even go as far as to use my nextel 2way "get right through" feature while driving (gasp!) and so far no strange behavior

>>I have been using my cell hone in my car for 6 months and have not had a signal issue with it. Good motoring.
Thanks, all, for the facts- I'm sorry if I inadvertently hijacked this thread... but I was worried and hadn't seen anything else about it. Back to your regularly scheduled topic!
