electrical problems
ok I have a 2007 mini S with some electrical problems, first the rear hatch latch keeps popping open for no reason, when you shut the lights off the hatch opens, when you hit the motor stop button the hatch opens. the key fob works and the switch in the hatch itself works. also I found out today that my wipers washers do not work either front or rear doesn't sound like the washer motor is working.
I live in Pennsylvania so it is pretty cold here now, I bought the mini this summer and this is the first electrical problem ive had.
anyone run into anything like this before???

First, remove the battery and have it tested at AutoZone or a similar parts store. It's likely the cold weather is affecting a weak battery and that can create all kinds of electrical gremlins in a MINI. Also, if the battery has been recently replaced, still have it tested. They are sometimes not up to snuff.

Remember if you replace a battery in a mini You need to reset you alternator. The electrical system in a mini uses a smart charge system. Even if you replace the battery. The car will still think an old battery is still being used.
all of these functions come out of the fuse box. if you have a sunroof, check the fuse box for water damage/corrosion. Also, sometimes the trunk handle cracks/breaks causing water to get in and corrode the circuit board. inspect for damage there, too. I've replaced batteries so many times and never had to "reset" the alternator. the proper term is "register" the battery. not all cars require that!!! only the ones with sensor on the battery.

Yeah i feel you...yesterday was going to take the convertible to work and the starter was frozen lol..i took the other mini instead.
with the sunroof, it is more prone to electrical issues since they leak inside. While you at the fuse box, feel the carpet from the bottom for wetness.
