DEFENDERS OF SPEED out of business?

Does anyone have any info on what's up with DOS? Seems everything Clint sells is "currently unavailable" and every email I've sent comes back with the generic away response of "away on family leave". It's been this way since at least October. I hope everything's ok but it would be nice to get an update on when/if the store will reopen. According to the email it should've been reopened quite some ago.

I'm guessing no one knows anything. Oh well. Very strange there haven't been more questions considering this is one of the more trusted and sought after vendors in the MINI world. I'm surprised more folks haven't been wondering why they can't buy DOS stuff.

Disappeared without a trace!

I sent an e-mail to them about their sea foam adapter, but they never returned it OR my call. Just as well since I'm undecided if it's hype or not.

I've been wondering what's going on as well. Super nice guy, I hope he's alright. I called the other day but just got a recording.

That was my understanding as well. I know all the return emails have said 'family leave' but I was almost certain it said he'd be back by now. I certainly hope everything's alright. I just wish he'd give notice when/if we can expect to buy his stuff again.

Clint is okay, but closing up shop. I'm glad he's fine.

Hi FB Friends,

It's Clint from DoS.

Just wanted to drop a note to everyone that I'm in the process of shutting down Defenders of Speed over the next month. Apologies to everyone who checked-in w/me for the radio silence since October, but it was a tough decision. I will truly miss making hand-crafted parts that make MINIs go fast for a living, but ultimately it's the best choice for me and my family.*

Doing the research, testing, designing, testing again, prototyping, sourcing, TESTING AGAIN, & building parts that stand out from our competition was extremely fulfilling. As many of you may or may not know, I either completely assembled or helped-to assemble EVERY DoS-branded kit we made. (Many of the CAI kits have my signature on them to let folks know that an actual human made this for them.) I wanted to ship a little bit of passion for MINIs and craft with everything we sold. Craftsmanship is an essential part of who I am and it helped to define a unique niche for DoS as aftermarket MINI brand. Again, I will miss it terribly. It was fun to be an upstart in a market where quality and design is questionable at (many) times.

Thanks to my family, MINI friends, FB friends, loyal fans, NAM & *** members, everyone who used to come by the DoS booth at MINI events, (and even my friends that aren't all that into MINIs) for supporting the company. Defenders of Speed was an all consuming enterprise at times, so I'm looking very forward to hanging out with you as a husband, dad, brother, son, friend, and/or just-a-MINI-enthusiast again soon.

Best,

-Clint Cope

Does anyone know where to get a replacement filter for the DoS CAI, since they are out of business? Am I going to have to go back to stock and leave a hole in by car?
I know he was using a new filter that was paper but I wonder if it's heavily modified. Has anyone tried it. Filter # or part #?

Thanks,

The ones I saw for the R53 looked like the blue Amsoil Filters...

If it's the gen 1 CAI you can get the oiled filter from KN. If you want the dry filter go AFE. if it's the gen 2 CAI AFE made those for Defenders of speed and they were all dry filters.
